If I was the rider, and could hold onto the tree, I'd release the leash and then pull the safety so that the kite was immediately detached from me, and then I'd climb down the tree.
I wouldn't pull the safety first because it's almost certainly fouled and I'd rather not put the kite into yet another unpredictable position.

Leash yourself to the tree if you can before you release the kite. Use spare leash as well if you have one. Bummer if you only have short leash. Get a turn round the tree if you can. Collect coconut for the milk to make a Pina colada for the evening.
If the rider can secure himself up there there are a variety of ways of organising and securing a belay to help him climb down safely or he can wait for rescue from the relevant services.
Monkey fall instinct might actually be useful!!

So he did what we would do, good for him.
And the kite gets further down as well, just would be nice to see how he catches it
Happy it worked out and he didn’t get injured. Luckily all got stuck, since I saw videos before where guys didn’t get stuck and were pulled down to ground....
