Actually Android GPS API returns timestamp in nanoseconds for every position reported - more than enough accuracy. It is probably Sportstracker's problem that it doesn't save it in GPX-file properly.

I think speed reported by GPS API is somehow already adjusted based on the current position's accuracy. At least that is what I see on the watches - when you start GPS, reported location can jump around, but the speed often stays at 0.
You are ofcourse right, I checked LocationManager API-calls, last time did 5y ago or something and I think I did not find that GPS clock was returned on locationupdata callbacks. I think GPS timestamps was available via NMEA-only. But memories are so vague..

Here is screenshot of one investigation of SportsTracker GPX file. 142km/h speed and for some reason timestamp quality is what it is. Ka72.com dropped speeds by acceleration analysis, track gave 4g accelerations without filtering. Drag racer accelerations.

I can definitely fix that if I do tracking.

BTW, which SportsTracker app do you refer to? Can you give me a Play store link to it?

No internet connection is needed, you can use a cheap spare Android phone (OS 4.3 and above) even without a sim card. If you want to use the notifications workaround and see jump height on a watch (like in the video below), it will work with any watch that can display text of notifications, including Samsung Tizen watches. Your watch would have to be connected to the phone you use during the session though. For Android Wear OS watches phone is not needed - Woo Screen app installs on them directly and runs without a phone.

"Sports Tracker", maybe the very first gps-based mobile phone sport tracking app.

Can you post a Play store link to it? Searching for "Sports Tracker" in Play store comes back with a bunch of very similar looking apps with nearly identical names, not sure which one you refer to. Thanks!

Got it, thanks. That is a monstrous app! Doesn't look like it is suited for water very well though.

One friend used that for snowkite speed records. It gave so suspicious results that I investigated why and found the irregular time stamps.

I just checked permissions for Sport Tracker's watch app - it doesn't request location at all. It looks like you must have your phone with you at all times during the session, which is silly, especially for runners (not to mention kiters  ).
