No way, I saw him at a local spot and wondered what he was riding. Would like to give it a go.

A skimboard with fins... Interesting!
How would you (as a prone surfer) be able to paddle this?

Check out people surfing alaia on YouTube. Not exactly easy though.

Catching the wave with an alaia is a little tricky, but the paddle out is brutal. A clean point break would be nice. I only had access to sandbar beachbreak when I tried a good while ago. Got to my feet several times. Suffered good a bit in between.
I have also paddled into waves on a small windsurf board, which paddled fine but was unrideable for me....

a bit off topic. I've ridden thicker boards. Then built a whole bunch really thin, 13L, and smaller , about 3" shorter of comparable board. In Scandinavian conditions where we only get waves in nuking winds, I find they are better.
But it's a bit of personal preference.
That said, almost no company is building low volume, thin boards for the kind of conditions that are at most spots in Europe.
Some of you might be fortunate to live where you have real period swell and waves, then perhaps the domed deck, 24L Surfboard is better.
Ich think Fone introduced a super thin low volume carbon Waveboard a few days ago. Maybe worth checking out ;)
