Landing Sand anchor

Postby keegster17 » Tue Feb 25, 2020 3:17 pm

Any new products or ideas for self landing a foil kite on the sand. Going away South, last time where I kited, I was the only one kiting, so it was difficult to land solo.

Dog leash screw + carabiner (or just a kite leash)

You can buy a Kite-hook for 39 €
https://www.kite-hook.com/acheter.html

And the video "how to use it" (even it's fairly obvious)

Edit:
There is a bag/sign to leave attach on the beach to find it back and to warn people not to take it.

Fill one of these, full of rock or sand ; now you have a place to put your wet
gear. It works better than a car bumper ; because it slides a bit when the
kite pulls too hard. You can make it Really heavy ; in a short amount of time !

I made one of these out of plywood. It's quite a simple device. Waiting to test it out.

Good use for an old twin-tip?

I would say it would be a great use of a old TT. No need to varnish a old TT either 👍

I think a sand bag is the best method. Use a canvas grocery bag, or something. Dig a shallow hole, put the bag in, fill it with sand. Throw a carabiner on the handle.

It won't hurt anyone if the kite breaks free vs a metal sand achor. Its light, small, and you can use it to carry your wetsuit or something in.

The OP asked about landing a foil kite. I would not use any of the above in landing a foil kite. There were other methods mentioned in this forum such as using a hook type thingy anchored in the sand to catch the wing tip bridle or using a rebar rod driven into the sand with a pool noodle on it. I would not tether a foil kite to a sand anchor to land it like a LEI kite.
