How to prevent rotation jumping from wave

Postby Youtch » Thu Feb 27, 2020 12:35 pm

Dear community,

I am from times to times starting uncontrolled and unwanted backroll rotations while jumping from a wave.

It always results in major and quite painfull crash.

Is there anyway to prevent the unwanted rotation or to restore the situation before going 180 degrees?

Thank you very much in advance for your guidance.

Are you bringing your knees up a bit after take off and engaging your core?

Learning to perform back rolls and front rolls will teach you the muscle memory and movements required to initiate (and prevent) rotations in each direction. I found the same issue of accidental rotation when learning, but over the months and years of practice jumping it happened less often.

Since I now kite much less often than I used to do I find that accidental rotation (or just poor body position mid-air) is now happening more often again. I guess I need more hours on the water!

try to edge less hard upwind...this could lead to the back rotation.

In contrary, if you have forward rotations, you should to try to edge harder...

See if this already helps. And let us know.

Its always the waves that start to break that get me,that whitewater foam has the evil intent to grab my board on takeoff.

Onshore or sideshore?
Simple answer is don’t cut upwind so hard just before takeoff as said above. Try to go a bit more downwind if possible and while learning aim for the far shoulder of the wave, not the center of the lip until you get the muscle memory.

Trying to boost off whitewash will always be unpredictable. Don't do it. Load and pop before the whitewash and boost over it then line up an unbroken pitching kicker.

Watch countelss hours of redbull king of air. You will notice the pros do not boost off whitewash. The find the clean kicker and boooooom. When you get your technique down you can sorta down raley over the white wash and keep your speed so when you hit the kicker you are at pace.

Hm that is weird then. When your knees are up and core is engaged then you might not be looking downind but a bit over your shoulder? Usually where you are looking/your head is pointing at is where the body turns to.
