looks like the RD is going on lockdown(starting tomorrow).....especially if coming from europe:
(is in spanish... but your fav translator should work well)
Gobierno dominicano toma nuevas medidas sobre #CoronavirusRD:

Waiting for the moment I will be told that I can’t go to the beach anymore, which has never been so close. Not sure I will be able to get one last session before it happens.
Time to service my kitesurf gear: remove all the sand accumulated in bags, on the kites, change lines on my bar, make some modifications, repair the dings on my board...and try not to heat too often about that damn virus
And take care of my family, which is the most important.
Time to learn new skills too, thanks to internet. Why not CAD modeling?

Stay safe everyone, this looks like it is going to be bad.
It does seem that the seriousness of this epidemic is finally sinking into UK public brains. My wife is medical so it's very likely that I'm going to be infected. Fortunately I have no preexisting health conditions *

* Approx. death rates for pre-existing conditions:

10.5% Heart disease
7.3% Diabetes
6.3% Chronic respiratory disease
6.0% High blood pressure
5.6% Cancer
0.9% None

These probabilities are additive. For example, if you have diabetes and high blood pressure then probability of death is at least 13.3%.
I think the people working in the medical field are going to have to be very brave since they are certainly going to get this virus, maybe no one can avoid it although I am going to give it my best shot and try to make sure my elderly parents don't get it. Been trying to persuade my family that this thing is more like a plague than a bad flu, they don't want to hear it. Since it is so contagious it seems to be growing exponentially at 20% a day, so could be millions of cases in the UK in a month and tens of millions in 3 months. Death rates will be a lot higher when the health care system of most countries are under incredible strain. Martial Law is probably coming.

FYI the UK infection rate is expected to be at least 80%. The target infection rate (yes, you heard it right) is at least 60% because at this level and above (assuming, as seems very likely, that those who recover will have developed some immunity) in future outbreaks the transmission rate would be less than 1 thus not developing into another epidemic. .

By the same analysis, countries which try to suppress infections levels below 50% will not build enough population immunity and will, in the absence of effective vaccines, likely face further large scale outbreaks this coming autumn and winter.

60% of 65 million is 39 million. That must equate to something like a million deaths, possibly a fair bit more. The only hope is that the number of people currently infected is a lot higher than being quoted and the fatality/critical rates are a lot lower.

It most definitely is, as this thing moves like the wind, as in airborne.

Just to show how panicky people are getting, my brother was down to his last roll of toilet paper and went to Walmart to buy some. They were just restocking the shelves bringing out a pallet. He said it was like seagulls swarming around potatoe chips at the beach. One man wanted to buy the whole pallet but the store employee told him no way. Two women almost got into a fight.

So I sent him this picture.

not a joke. I am pissed...

I am also a golfer and it is also forbidden...
Not being able to kite or golf should be the last of your concerns
Seriously?

Being mentally healthy and optimistic about the future does not come from being in a bunker.

Kited 4 days last week, at least might die happy :)
