Postby The Ruuk » Tue Mar 24, 2020 7:59 pm

Hi everyone,
Here in Sri-Lanka Kalpitiya everything has more or less come to a halt. All our bookings are cancelled. Last year it was the easter attack which Brough the complete tourism to a halt. And this year Corona Virus has made even a worst impact. Until today fortunately no one is reported dead from the virus. And we hope and pray that it stay that way.

I would say that we all need to keep our distance to others in times like this. Everyone please stay at home and allow the medical staff to concentrate on the most needed.
Soon there will be time for us all to go kiting again and we would love to see many of you coming back to our Kiting region too. Till then please stay safe and take care.

Best wishes

But is it responsible to do a sport which carries risk of injury, rescue, using local health services? I haven’t done so in 2 decades but...

Rate of COVID-19 testing in select countries worldwide as of March 20, 2020
https://www.statista.com/statistics/110 ... worldwide/
Kind of shocking how far down you need to scroll to find the US :-(

Rate of COVID-19 testing in select countries worldwide as of 2020-03-20.png
Shit metric there bordering in doom porn propaganda.
Faeroes at the top, no surprise.
Find an island with population 10 and test one person, yields rate of 100,000 per million, and then faeroe islands would look bad too.
Try to find 35 million test kits overnight for US, good luck! For the whole EU, more....

The sheer number of tests given doesnt carry too much weight and reflects what transmission happened 10-15 days before.
Most important to test severely ill amd hospitalized patients to give correct treatment.

Shhhh... watch your language. Of course the Faeroe Islands are not the primary focus here, that should be obvious.
As of 3/20 the rate of testing was 50-60 times higher in South Korea than the US. And testing is big part of their success. There is no excuse, the US could have pulled this off, they had extra time and have many large pharma companies.
Instead we have a president who initially called everything a hoax and now we're playing catchup and we have unnecessary deaths.

Why are you dragging Orange Man Bad derangement rhetoric into this discussion?
no excuse, the US could have pulled this off, they had extra time and have many large pharma companies.
Like what, a month? And Pharma with mainly HQs, labs and and sales teams here? The factories aren’t here, thanks to 30 years of offshoring mostly to China.
How many drug or equipment factories can you build in a month? basically none, certainly not a state of the art one.

If you are into president blame, who got that offshoring going? (in the 1990’s).
Also you know about TPP, right? The treaty that saw China buy/build Italian factories and bring in 300,000 chinese workers...
Has that gone well? Don’t think so.
Come to think of it there was a President that wanted that TPP treaty adopted by US, who could he be?
Oh right, it was Mr “you can keep your doctor” himself.
Your hated Orange Man put a stop to that, so maybe he isn’t that bad.
Instead we have a president who initially called everything a hoax
He called media coverage and political weaponization of the epidemic a hoax. Putting all blame on him definitely is a hoax, it has to do with history and the whole world, not one guy you dislike.

By the way there was another president in between there somewhere who to my knowledge did little if anything to help with these issues. Oh yeah, the war on terrorism guy. Bush. Can’t let him skate can you? I can’t either. All share responsibility in a problem that was a long time coming.
and now we're playing catchup and we have unnecessary deaths
.
After 30 years of policies from both ends of the political spectrum that set us up to be vulnerable. Yes it sucks.

You can’t honestly put it on one person, it’s the whole
Globalized, politics and quarterly profit first mentality that needs revision. Countries need to have domestic production in balance with international trade, or else a hell of a stockpile. This is obvious and is true for any government, from a monarchy to socialism to a democracy or any other thing.

Trumps blase attitude early on could be looked at as bad, but it could also be looked as good. Had he been publicly reacting with alarm early then it would have started the panic earlier and increased it more. End result is more stores stripped, markets down more with more economic damage.

If anyone thinks we can control this with just isolation, good luck. This spreads better than the flu and we only have partial control on that with isolation and existing immunity. We have no immunity against this. The only way you get immunity is either exposure or a vaccine. We have no vaccine, nor is it certain we will. See SARS for evidence to that.

Intentional and selective infection of people is one way we can gain immunity while minimizing harm.

I’ve been watching this since it was posted here a couple of days ago.

https://healthweather.us/

Notice California and Washington, Seattle area, King county.

Hypothesis, social distancing is working and reducing not just corona virus but other viruses.

I it hurts to agree with you but I really think we should have put all of our 19-30 year olds on a 3 weeks all inclusive booze cruise.

Those with underlying conditions exempted.
