Boosting Kite that Wave Rides

Postby TheRussian » Mon Mar 16, 2020 3:37 pm

I want a kite that boosts and wave-rides, yes.. wanting cake & eating it - I have used Parks & older Pivots and the Pivot does quite well here. I appreciate that there is always a compromise and any kite is not always perfect for the given day, but I can't face/justify getting wave specific kites.

It seems that the Reedin has been designed more as a crossover kite "like" the 2020 Pivot - but is it any better at either boosting or for use in waves?

I had a quick go on the Orbit, but this was maxed out & didn't get the chance to see what it was like wave-riding. Has anyone attempted to wave-ride with it - again taking on board that is not in the design brief.

I thought that the liquid force solo v2 was adequate for both jumping and wave riding. I never got a chance to try the newer versions.

I use the '19 Naish Slash 7m for that. It's a wave kite but great to swop boards during sessions and be able to boost as high as with my pivot on a twin tip. It has amazing lift but less hangtime. I'm not a looper but the Slash has a much wider arc so probably not as suited as the pivot.
On the other hand: the pivot isn't bad in the waves at all, on the contrary. So I'd decide which style is more important to you.

Thanks for the thoughts, but really interested in a comparison/thoughts on the Reedin / 2020 Pivot / Orbit

I've had a few short session in the surf on a 9m Orbit, I went out primarily to boost on a twin tip each time but the wind dropped a little so I took the surfboard out. I really wan't expecting too much but I was pleasantly surprised as it very useable considering the design brief for it.

On a side note I've also been impressed how big the Carve can boost too!

Mid AR foil kite, like Hyperlink, Soul, Pulsion, FRS or A15

I use ozone Enduros. Wave ajustement on the front bridle when in waves and on freeride or freestyle knots for jumping.
Neo could also be an option from what I hear.

Many thanks... did the orbit drift at all... was it side-shore or park & ride?
