How will Covid impact kite brands and shops?

Postby Osprey1 » Wed Mar 25, 2020 12:40 am

I was thinking about purchasing a new quiver this year of Ocean Rodeo Aulula kites, but due to the shelter at home orders and severe contractions in my business I am going to forego this purchase. I’m likely not the only one in this position. I’m wondering how many brands and shops that are over-leveraged or barely profitable are going to go under. Does anyone have any insights on how this pandemic is impacting the industry?

I imagine that the kite shops buy from the manufactures through the year. Are they in the midst of their first buy? Is it likely they are sitting on a lot of stock. Grim

Depending on location and season, shops in some countries were ordering 2020 kites back in Aug-Sept. Where I'm at the shop's are just bringing in the 2020 gear for our season which hasn't started yet. I'd be curious if they're starting to cancel some orders or push them back.
It will be interesting if they can manage this longterm. Many parks (and/or parking areas) where we kite are currently closed due to the pandemic.

I think it will affect everyone who kites.
Because of many statewide lockdowns and more pending people are loosing money.
My friend who kites said his job where he works will close down ...forced.
He only has 3 months of income.
People will sell gear to buy the necessity they need to live.
I know some shops are already full of new gear for the new season, but with beach ban they will be hurting.
We all suffer somehow thru this.
Everything we buy is affected.
I know from friends in Asia that most kite spots are in lockdown. You are not allowed to kite and will be fined big money if you are caught.
When this is done maybe the manufacturers will reduce prices to stimulate buying.
