Garmin watches are pretty popular popular among kiteboarders (especially Fenix series). They are one of the best options for water sports - better screen visibility and no touch screen that doesn't work in water
I like using them too, but I was missing some features that would make Garmin watches even better for kiteboarding. Fortunately, Garmin has SDK that allows writing new apps, so I gave it a try. Took me a while to figure out how to do it, but finally here are the first few data fields that I created:
Max speed during last number of seconds, universal:
https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/3477 ... 9092a86184
It displays maximum speed reached during last 30 seconds (by default), but the period can be changed to anything else in app's settings. Ideal for short speed runs to see max speed reached, without getting distracted by looking at the current speed on the watch during the run. It is basically the same metric that I used in my Woo Screen app.
Also, if you accelerate before the jump, most likely it will show your jump take off speed (check soon after landing).
Minimum speed in last number of seconds, universal:
https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/1a66 ... cded712647
Displays minimum speed reached during last given number of seconds (number of seconds is selectable in app's settings). You can also change speed units in settings. Ideal for short runs to see the minimum speed reached, without getting distracted by looking at the watch during the run. I came up with this data field for kiteboarding, where it is difficult to look at the watch while trying to get the lowest speed. It is usefull when you test your gear (like foils) for a low end speed.
And of course WOO app for Garmin:
https://apps.garmin.com/en-NL/apps/53d9 ... 65bc6a144a
WOO app has some compatibility restrictions: https://docs.woosports.com/docs/garmin- ... ed-watches
All data fields are free - give them a try and let me know what you think. They should work on most Garmin watches out there.
Also, let me know what else you would like to see - I'm open to suggestions and ideas . Even simple things like changing Max Speed interval (30 sec instead of 60 ). Do not ask for WOO app though - that is going to be pretty hard to do, so it won't happen any time soon
Thanks!
