Can you publish the full ISO testing specification DK?

I think since we mostly moved to pivoting, none-line-of-load releases like the North solution that max release tension is down to materials interface, parts precsion and plastic deformation. Pull from the kite isn't the factor it was.

I'm all for better, safer, the self aggradising tone of the Press Release isn't what we need in the safety segment of the market. But hey, it's what we've all come to expect from the GKA.

Hi Simon,

Copyright for all ISO standards is solely owned by ISO, I can't legally publish/supply a copy of ISO21853 to anyone.

However it is available to purchase for a small fee from ISO here:

I've read this a few times, no idea what you are talking about.

Until someone has run back to back tests on the same units under both regimes its impossible to say if they are comparible or not.
I personally have, hundreds of tests on both setups using a vast range of QRs.

I designed, built and qualified the system the standard is based on.

Cheers

Is this one of the factors why the Airush IQR is so great? Did this testing experience flow into the design of the IQR (Disclaimer: I switched to this system this year despite not flying an Airush Kite)

Hi Mede,

Thank you for your kind words - I'm very proud of my work on both the iQR and ISO21853 and as you have guessed both projects are related.

A few years back I was contracted by Airush to look into their whole control system program and as part of that review ended up proposing to develop a new quick release to replace the Brain 3.0.

The ISO21853 standard was also in development at this same time and since this was likely to have an impact on the design of any new QR's I also ended up drawn into the standards technical committee.

For sure having the first ISO21853 test jig in my lab was handy when it came time to test iQR prototypes.

You can see this the iQR on this jig in this video:

Cheers

Yeah, the IQR works amazingly well indeed.
And it's great to see a QR that is built from the ground upto work with a sliding rope spreader, and not awkwardly retrofitted for the purpose.
Again : very well done.

Some more information about this ISO standard, but it's in French (from the french kite federation). The technical part is at the end with the force and weight tested.

And they BOTH have the red STOP, front and dead centre to warn muppets that probably wouldn't know what a colour on one side of a bar meant, like the fools that don't now the difference or the colour coding even for Port and Starboard.
Still, a small red word isn't what people will been looking when un-spinning the bar. At least now the made a big red line...a little better, but in my opinion proper color coded lines + floats are the way to go in the safety sense. And repeat the same error of duotone/north inverting their color code from the earlier year... that wasn't the smartest think to do, but what should I say, I am just a customer that spent few thousand dollars in gear...
:o

Does this ISO standard state what pre tension must be applied to the system before testing the release force?

Some systems just don't work well under big load.
