Infexion Max bar / Seatbelt Quick Release

Postby evan » Sat Apr 18, 2020 2:28 pm

Proud to announce our new quick release design, carbon bar will soon follow:

Intrigued by the simplicity of a harness based snap shackle combined with only a ring at the bar we took the goal to design a modern equivalent push away version that meets the requirements of all hooked-in riders from racing and boosting to wave and foiling.

With only 75mm tall and 117g it is one of the shortest releases available giving you maximum sheeting range and maneuverability and we even surpassed the shackle with a free spinning flagout system making it possible to integrate a ball bearing enabling it to spin so easily that your front lines never get twisted again.

The biggest hurdle in the design process was to get the force to push the release open low enough, even under high loads after extended use. As initially the metal on plastic friction was low enough to pass the tests bit over time some fine metal/sand dust collects on the plastic sliding surface increasing the force to open twofold, making it only just fail the tests. We eventually went for a small roller on an axle, that even when seized still enables the release force to be low enough to open the Seatbelt Quick Release under all conditions. Added bonus was that it distributes the load better into the plastic housing making the claws that grab onto the metal ring the weakest link.

The release is designed to handle loads up to 500DaN and the claws bend open above 600DaN, more then enough for even the heaviest riders and on par with the most used chickenloops on the market. The force to open sits around 30-50DaN under a 200DaN load and we never had a failed quick release in the past year of almost daily real world testing.

Demonstration that it releases safely even with loads over 250DaN:

Thanks Evan that looks really interesting particularly if you run a lot of bars with ageing chicken loops. The roller development looks good. I have 3 questions:

1. What keeps the collar down in the locked position?
2. What sizes of SS ring can the jaws take?
3. Is there anything in the design which stops the leash wrapping when rotating the collar?

Regards Herman

Standard versions are shipping this week.

Did find a source for some delrin bearing balls. Current stainless steel ones do rust over time if you don't keep it salt free and oiled between sessions. I want to deliver a maintenance free product where possible, although the bearings are relatively easy to change out when worn. So if you are willing i can already ship it with the current steel bearings.

1. A single 3mm bungee that is wrapped around the inside 4 times that also aids the ejection of the ring.
2. Maximum ring size is 5mm thickness and 35mm outer diameter.
3. The leash sits on top of the release and is short enough to not wrap around anything. It also rotates with the top of the release so you won't end up with a twisted flagout line. Will make a short video of it as it hard to capture on a still image.

This release looks really good. My only concern is how difficult it is to reconnect with the kite in the air compared to with the horse panic snap shackle I use at the moment. Or with a Wichard?

Cheers
Gunnar

No problems passing a flying kites, it's on par with a chickenloop as you can just grab the depower cord above the ring and push it into the release. Easier than fiddling a snap shackle through that ring and closing it in my opinion.

How about a movie on that, Evan? I'd be very interested!

I reconnected it when I pulled accidentally my safety in the water after a big crash, I did not practiced it before on land and it was not a problem to reconnect.
