Nice one, but wouldn't it be wise to include the right ring with the QR? Extra cost for you is minimal, and that would prevent people from using an incorrect size, or a poor quality one found at a hardware store.

I loved how the ring shoots out of the QR, i.e. it can be activated even with absolutely no tension in the depower mainline. Very useful in some situations

Yes, but I like the give the customer the option to choose only what he needs instead of giving half of them extra bits that they are not going to use and end up in a landfill.

That's a very good reason. You could maybe offer the rings on your website alongside the QRs?

A regular stainless 4mm ring has a typical breaking load of about 800kg. Enough that if that load is exceeded you've got far worse problems to worry about than ring strength. A forged ring will be much stronger.

How big of a ring should I use on my depower cord?
The Seatbelt Quick release is designed to fit a ring with a maximum size of 5x25mm (5mm thickness and 35mm outer diameter). All smaller rings fit with no problem. For light riders / loads you can get away with a 4×20 or 4x25mm ring but those rings will bend out of shape above a load of 250DaN so for heavier riders we recommend a ring with 5mm thickness.

4X25mm is more than strong enough. It is just that a heavy rider can bend it out of shape and some riders don't feel confident when that happens. I didn't find a trustworthy source for the 5mm rings, I don't trust chinesium from alibaba for those.

Above is the ring of a 110kg racer. And here the elongated ring when the quick release was tested up to the breaking point of 550-600DaN. With only 70kg myself the 4mm ring stays perfectly round so those will be fine for 90% of the riders and even the heavy ones if they don't mind bending them.

The auto-release of the ring is a cool feature - i.e. it pops out of the jaws when you activate the release even when the line is not under tension. BUT, this only works if the ring diameter is big enough. I experimented with some smaller rings and some of them seem to get completely stuck - the internal elastic actually seems to hold them in!

Evan, I suggest that you give clear guidance about the minimum ring size too. You only ever mention maximum size.

For those sourcing rings, remember that they are usually sold by inner dimension size, so 25x5 is the biggest size (which gives 35 outer diameter)
