Tom

I just assumed it was two loops interlocked but studying the photo it looks like it might be the splice hitch I use to attach my harness runner to the shackle pins I have on my spreader bar. This hitch does not close down hard on something thin because there is a part of the line buried as well as through. Either way this splice hitch is useful and worth a play with to see what a surprisingly neat attachment it can be. Once set it can also be loaded from just one end as in 2or3 years service on my go to harness without th hint of a problem. Perhaps Evan will confirm or enlighten further. Photo attached:

This is just a prototype to see if I have concept right ... still want to hear from Evan if he is ok with me duplicating and using it.
... then will make it a bit longer and be more careful with properly burying and locking splices

Seems to me that you can control the diameter of the hole by length of bury chosen. It appears that all the fibres stay involved in a reasonable way and it should achieve strength reasonably close to that of the single line used or perhaps better as both sides of the loop will be tensioned. It will be interesting to see how it wears. (That analysis is for what I am calling the splice hitch.)

My tip:
As a long term splicer, I would suggest to use a narrow wowen prestrectched line like liros dc401.
Just put a hole into center of line, with a malspieker.
Ready is yr safety line hole.
regards

DC-401 is definitely not the right line for the job! It doesn't have great abrasion resistance and after few releases people might end up in trouble, especially with the solution you propose.

Why are you emphasising on 'narrow woven' (I guess you meant tight braided?) and pre-stretched? All kite lines on the market are pre-stretched and with similar braid pitch.

My first attempt
My first attempt doesn't look anywhere as neat as yours, but that's mainly because I'm using same line as Evan and yours is a tight pitch with 16 strands I guess?
Holds my weight and will surely hold much more.

It’s 12 strand but it’s old slingshot front lines so the weave had been pulled pretty tight during use. Yours looks pretty good - what diameter is the line you are using?

1,8mm SK99 for all 3 parts in my test.
I need to make few more to get it neater, and then experiment with different lines.

It's just a piece of rope with two loops spliced into it but making the second one interlocking before splicing. It relies on the tension in the power lines to pull everything tight, but it doesn't lock itself around the power line so it still flags without issue.

The loop in the flagout line that connects to the power line needs to be thick enough to not get pulled through the interlocking loops.

I use all Sk99 500 for it. Splicing a 70mm piece into the flagout line loop to make it thick enough. On the test bench this was stronger than the power line itself.

Only downside is that the thickened loop in the flagout line won't pass through chickenloops where the hole for the flagout line is less than 8mm. Also you need to replace it as it will wear out together with the other lines on the bar eventually.
