Most fun 9m with a twin tip?

Postby Ice101 » Thu Apr 23, 2020 1:50 am

I’m looking for a new 9m size lei only for maximum fun on a twin tip. Not really into waves. Just mainly hooked in free ride tricks and slides and messing about. Am thinking maybe xr6, gts 5 or super model. What’s most recommended for maximum fun?

Pick 2019 Rally 9m. They’re amazing. Predictable, top of grade relaunch, good lowend, nicely looping, great jumping. Been riding Rallys for last 6 years and those are the keepers.

Rally is a great kite in 9m but I wouldn’t rate it quite so high. There are so many great 9m kites so you kind of have to pick your flavour. Rally is a conditions tamer. Makes intimidating days no big thang but it’s no sports car. Jumps super well but don’t oversheet or your coming down with a plop. Slow to initiate but quick enough once turning. LOADS of top end range with pretty amazing low end power. Pull hard enough and it loops gutlessly. Try to get a bigger radius loop with some pull and it get really unpredictable and does not finish the loop well. If you want light and nimble with nice power in the loops ina kite that will catch you after a loop, go for something else. There are many, but the pivot was an extremely well rated kite in recent years. If I were looking for a one kite quiver it would be a 9m pivot. That being said, there are loads of 9m kites that would make me happy.

For absolute maximum tt fun I feel that a good 9m should have the power spike of a 10m, with the agility of a 7m, at the price of a 5m, thus narrowing it down to the Flite 8m :D

Eleveight RS if you want a fast kite. Duotone Rebel if you want something slower. XR6 if you are heavy and want something slower.

Edge is a good shout. I haven't had a chance to test one though

I had edges before. Few years ago though. Nice kite but was a bit boring. I was on bandits up until a couple years ago and moved to souls but missing the looping, speed and fun factor of the bandit. Bandit didn’t have much hangtime though and not quite enough power in the loop. Last version o had was 2018 bandit 11. Looking for an improvement on a bandit really with a little more hang and power in the loops but same playfulness and fun factor. I did by a pivot 2019 only had one go in and was actually very impressed. I had to sell it though as needed a new car and needed the money for that. I now have the money for a 9m again so wanting something extra fun. I think the rally likely sits under the bandit in fun stakes. Looking to go beyond. Is the xr6 a pretty slow kite?

I’ve had a 9m rally, 9m pivot and 9m xr5. All are great kites, but in my opinion nothing beats the pivot especially in the 9m size. Any year after 2017 with the Quad-Tex material. Like jump the shark if I had one kite the 9 or 10 pivot would be it for sure.
9m xr5 is not slow, similar speed to pivot. Xr5 has a bit less low end than pivot but a bit more high end. All just my opinion of course...

talking to someone who has tested all the kites, he loves the Orbit, rates the supermodel highly for a kite that does everything, thinks the Edge & Pivot designs have not kept up and whilst the XR6 is good for going up and down, it doesn't do much else & is a bit boring... his words, not mine. Personally, the Pivot is my pick & a 9m Edge is fine!

I'm going to recommend the 9m Naish Dash for flat out speed, boosting and looping. Faster than all the kites recommended so far, and has a fair bit of a hooligan nature in it which the edge and pivot most certainly do not have. Dash boosts brilliantly, decent hang time and loops very well, the weakness of the Dash would be it needs some decent wind to get going, the low end is fairly poor (it's quite "C" in shape). I need 20mph+ to have any fun on my 9m Dash (85kg).
