Good seat harness for narrow waist?

Postby Kees » Sun May 03, 2020 3:30 am

Any recommendations for a good fitting seat harness? My son has a size 29 waist, waist harness tends to ride up and is very uncomfortable for him. Thinking about getting him a new harness.

Have tried a few different seat harnesses but none were as comfortable as my Ion Echo. Have used these harnesses for many years, think I'm now on my third. I now use it with a Mystic Stealth bar.

Other people will recommend other harnesses which happen to fit them best, of course.

Fit should be the decision maker! Make sure to try on as many as you can... ideally under load.
Ion'e Echo seat harness in size XS fits a 25-29" waist and SM fit a 28-31".

Dakine's SM seat harnesses fit 28-30". Something like their XT model would be worth a look. If your son is skinny and/or on the shorter side, Dakine's Vega harness may be a better fit.

Prolimit's XS seat's fit 27-30". They also make a harness that's a hybrid waist/seat that may be something to consider. Mystic also makes a hybrid harness that may work (Star Hybrid).

Mystic's XS seat's fit 25-30" & SM fits 29-33". Check out their Aviator model.

Some women's models may also offer a good/better fit, so don't be afraid to give that a try. The only issue may be the colors and graphics. :thumb:

Dakine Vega. But Not Girls ones, as they usually need a bigger but, than the mens Type.

Try on at the Beach Even if too big!

Good move, waist harnesses are inferior but do look cool....lol

I would look into board short harnesses, basically a seat harness that looks cool...I find the Dakines run on the small tight side.

Try some different ones on (if possible) and try to touch your toes / mimick trying to put your board on - Big differences in mobility will show between different designs. I mostly use ride engine waist harness but when I use a seat harness its the dakine vega, it has much better flexibility than the dakine fusion which for me was nearly impossible to move in.
I actually find dakine to run a bit big, I use a size medium dakine and wear 33 or 34” waist jeans.

Anyway my point is to take mobility/flexibility into account when choosing seat harness because some will lock you up bad so you can barely bend over.

I am also a big fan of boardshort harness, and have been using them for years. However, if riding overpowered/lots of boosting, then a regular seat harness might be a better choice. Board short harnesses are very light on padding, which is fine for surf or foil, but can get sore with overpowered riding. Back when I did a lot of twintip, I used a dakine seat harness. I have a 30" waist.

True, I have both. I love my Mystic Driver seat harness, extremely comfortable and supportive.

Go for the ocean rodeo session 3 really comfortable and much trendier looking than a nappy style seat all the comfort though I’m high winds. No bruised ribs! :-)
