The title pretty much says it all; how do you guys find each other? I didn't see a forum for local sessions, is there one, on this site or perhaps another? Im new to the sport and trying to find other people in my area to ride with and learn from. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks guys.

Talk to the guys in your local shops. Jeremy at Jupiter kiteboarding is a great guy and will give you a good run down on the area and the people.

Or just go down to Juno beach on a windy day and start talking to folks. Most kiteboarders are friendly and helpful. If you encounter an nice person who is uncommunicative, just move on. Juno Beach is often straight onshore, which is tough for a beginner, but if side-on is safe as you can only get washed back onshore.

Join a local club. Most spots have a club somewhere?

I think the best and easiest way is to install the Woo app, find your local or nearby spots and start a chat!
You can also try the Duotone Piq app but the Woo communion is much bigger.
Good luck.

Our local kiters have several WhatsApp groups like for sharing spot wind reports and conditions, general chat (who is kiting where, lost and found, random discussions), foil riders group.

Testevents are also a good place to meet all kinds of people. How stupid life is right now this might not work as well but I always like to stay on the beach when I am not kiting and help others with start/landing and chat, if you bring a couple beer in an esky that is like a goldmine for friendships.

There was an app "We Kite" that would allow you to choose a spot on a map and schedule a session (date and time). And everybody with the app could see the schedule sessions and join you. That was great mainly for region where there are no shop and no local club. But the app doesn't work any more.
I would love the Woo App to have the same feature !

when traveling.. i'll hit the popular kite spot on arrival. (often before going to rental)
just to meet locals.. learn the lay. maybe mooch a beer or 3.
people in general are friendly the world over..esp when there are shared interests (like kiting)
and the simple word "hi". it is amazing the power when accompanied with a smile.
esp with foiling.. the more ideal riding locations arent always listed anywhere online..if an area is unknown to me. riding with a local partner is almost mandatory (to me)
at "known" locations.. i'm much more independent.
it's more the ron swanson rules.
i have no idea names...
but folks read the same weather reports. and there are always the same people there practically at the same times... we watch out for each other. i'd help out however anyone needed..and i'm sure they do the same.

At the beach. Launch and land some kites, start shooting the shit.. next thing you know you're in a WhatsApp group.
