Look at Morehead City Beaufort North Carolina. Pretty cheap living Good winds reasonably warm climate. With a small skiff you have access to all sorts of wave opportunities. Reasonable place to live and you can always drive into Raleigh in a couple of hours. Not as isolated as the outer Banks with a lot of the water sports benefits.

Hopefully he didn’t sell his house in California until recently and got the best price. Heard from a friend on the east coast, and unsolicited got a call asking what it would take to sell 3 homes, he got double what he wanted a year or two ago, and they closed in a week. He said there are no homes for sale there, big shortages.

It's tough becuause many places are cheap for a good reason and that is relative lack of infrastructure, amenities, etc. Many expensive places are expensive because they have a lot of all those things.
The trick is to find the sweet spot. I'm in the same position you are. I am also trying to factor in climate change and global warming. Some places look great now but they might be too hot, storm prone, forest fires, floods, etc in the future. Also some places not might get a lot more expensive over the next couple of decades as people move there to avoid the worst affects of climate change.

Just received a message from a friend who has a problem with health and had to do a second surgery.
First one was in Germany…second just now in Brazil.
He always thought Germany is better than Brazil in relationship to health…he just changed his mind, since in Germany they did it wrong…and got corrected in Brazil!

So, if you worry about medical aid in Brazil, think twice.
Just make sure to be living close to a big city.

Yes, a good surgery comes from having a good surgeon wherever you find them - it’s not about a hospital or country.

I'm 63 and not getting any younger. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's 2 years ago. Fortunately it remains a tremor in my hand. It has made me acutely aware of our limited time to enjoy this sport. And I'd like to dedicate the remainder of my health span progressing as far as I can go. To do this I will need to be a frugal nomad or expat. There had been many suggestions in this thread. From Maui (too expensive), Corpus and Morehead City to Europe, SE Asia as well as Mexico, South and Central America. I am open to all possibilities. If contributors could provide what a realistic monthly budget for their area of choice it would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Northeast Brazil I estimate 2000 USD a month. Can be lower if you rent a place a bit away from hot spots.

Someone asked me earlier today what I would have done if I had USD50m. Probably would have bought a place in NE Brazil and Cape Town.

Disregarding what might happen in Brazil right now that place is a bit difficult to beat. If you want slow warm days with good wind and great relaxed atmosphere - then that is your place. But if you prefer a bigger city, people speaking English, lower temperatures and maybe slightly more organized in general then Cape Town is a better choice.

I wouldn't know what you would need in Cape Town, but I would imagine USD2000 gets you a long way there as well?

Philippines get good wind as well. Quite a long season. I got no idea on costs and where it would be best to live permanently though. Staying in a place like Boracay permanently wouldn't be my cup of tea - but maybe you would like it there?

In Europe I guess Tarifa could work, but you would most likely need a car which adds to the budget. I am going to Tenerife in a month. Supposedly the wind is decent there with a long season.

Didn't intent to go on. Based on my personal experience Brazil or Cape Town (I guess Langebaan if you want something rural) would be where I would go.
