Strongest bar?

Postby longwhitecloud » Mon May 18, 2020 11:10 am

I get a bit worried by snapped bars :-0. The lines snapped too.

Mainly because i ride scary big waves sometimes and swimming in while possible isnt on my to do fun list.

I snapped a few naish bars 7 years ago? , I wasnt alone that year... dodgy manufacturing/ engineering that year

I don't trust this trust bar lol.. It is engineered in ways that are so wrong imo! The kite is great so far tho.

So... I need trustworthy bar and lines. Like really f$#$#ing strong made by a factory that does good quality control and good engineers working for them.

i have snapped plenty of lines but not a fan of the lines too. Need a good brand - i'll by a roll of it and make them up myself if i need to... What is a good one Sk35 1.3mm thick or something - is that what naish lines are?

I struggle to see a high reinforcement to resin ratio when I cut it open?! A lot of it just looks like moulded resin alone ?! :-0

The breaking load on a bar like this should be soooooooo high

thx

I think Slingshot, Ozone, and Airush have continuous aluminum bars.

Core has a titanium insert but that does not run the full length of the bar.New North bar ends are definitely just plastic. I will not speak poorly of them, but that seems like something you personally will not be happy with.

As to lines, I think most everything except Duontone is fine. Ozone and New North I know use SK99.

I think you want to look at Slingshot and Airush.

Don't know about bars and never heard of anyone who broke one.
I guess you could try to find out what the inside is made of.

For lines I always buy mine at https://www.infexion.nl/.
Not sure if they ship to wherever you live but the guy who works there is kind of a line expert so he can probably help or fabricate them for you.

I've made a couple of heavy-duty storm weather bars due to the same breaking and fear of being funked up...
I bought the Switch controller 2-3 'bar only with floats - its solid & strong as hell and easily the beats other brands I've had.
Just put the guts of your broken ones onto it. The later bars have gone lighter material..
Check out the load test, other brands would be too scared to show this lol.
Nothing better than that peace of mind that shit won't break..

I really liked the Switch Controller 2-3 bar. Large hole (less depower line catching or wear) and 10cm width adjustment (5cm total does not cut it for me)
But be aware, everything can break. I broke my switch Controller 3 bar in half, resulting in very long swim. However I still recommend it as a good robust bar.
What happened in my case is I had a horrendous kiteloop crash (kite stalled horizontally then powered up pulling just horizontally) that resulted in broken harness (Ion B2, strong but not the strongest harness out there). The bar must have cracked then; about a month later it went SNAP! just as I was jybing far out to get back closer to shore.
So switch Controller 3 is very strong, but not indestructible.

p.s. for total safety on lines, go q-power! I use q-power for front lines and whatever is laying around for back lines.

thank you, slingshot bar - had loads - never had one break... that reminds me i have had a bar bend before - forgot what that was..) and oh shit handles - i have used them... and kissed the sky! lol

thx, good idea to buy a switch bar too

I would have thought the load (breaking strain) that can go onto a bar should be in the 100s and 100s of kg. - like 400kg+?!

I am buying some 1.6mm thick sk99 line and a new bar

I really dislike the increase in the use of plastic moudings in kite equipment, don't underestimate the effect of UV light even if it has so called UV resistance.

Planned obscelesence rearing its ugly head in kiteboarding equipment?!

For the bar, I have no Solution.

For the Lines:
Liros DC Pro 401. 400 daN, 1,5mm

Liros DC Pro 701. 700 daN, 2,0mm

Don‘t get me wring please:
Lines snap because auf bad manufacturing e.g. Bad splicing.
And because of bad handling on the Beach.

Just my oppinion.
And yes, my handling on the Beach is Not good enough.

Cabrihna has aluminium bar as well with very strong lines.
Bar should or could only snap if you snap one of the front lines... otherwise all load is on chicken loop and front lines.

i have snapped bars without that happening before - naish bars.

In this case both front lines snapped at the same time.
