What the Farmers muck?

Postby markchatwin » Mon May 25, 2020 4:53 am

Came down to OBX for the millionth time. There is a segment of our population that doesn't care about following rules. While going to the Dollar store in Salvo I saw lots of people going into the store without a mask. The store workers did not enforce the wearing of masks and keeping distance between. Same scenario at several places. The only exception I saw was REAL store and restaurant. They had folks posted outside making sure all rules were followed including masks, store people limit, and hands sanitized. If you are a person that feels that wearing a mask in an enclosed space like a stuffy Dollar store is stupid then please explain yourself. What I saw today was a side of humanity I couldn't believe. Here are likely excuses:

I'm not buying masks, they're expensive
I don't like masks, they are uncomfortable
Covid can still be transmitted despite a mask
Trump doesn't wear a mask

I wear a mask in case I have Covid which can manifest itself in me with little to no symptoms. Oh yeh plus the medical experts recommended it...

I think it relates to kiting, the fact that REAL has in place the most vigorous social distancing and safety guidelines of any place I've seen. I guess I thought it amazing that The REAL kite store was one of the only stores I've visited in Hatteras that is actively trying to keep people safe while also servicing kiters and tourists in town. Liberty gas station wasn't doing anything. Dollar store didn't care. A couple ice cream stores didn't care. I will let it go at that...

@mark
So... you are a Viral Justice Warrior instead of a Covidiot.
That’s cool, but don’t be TOO sanctimonious about it.

It’s OK. I got COVID shamed on FB early on parking my car near other kiters on the beach. Never mind we were hydrofoilong many lines apart. My wife got me that night. “Is this your car?” None of are perfect. We all need some fresh air. Let the locals live their life and be glad they haven’t shut down the rentals and hotels to outsiders.

Then don't go to OBX. You must not get out much.

Eh, I'm not going to wear a mask just to make you feel better about your fears :roll:

Don't judge others because what they deem as an acceptable "risk" isn't the same as yours. If you don't like it, don't go into those establishments. I'm sure you are one of those who wears a mask while you are in your car alone :lol:
