It was a genuine question on how we can be more inclusive. Our community can and should be more inclusive towards people with different backgrounds in my opinion. The reactions to my post display intolerance towards this even being an issue.
They do? How?

And it wasn't phrased as only a question. You were also taking some strange moral high ground in my opinion.

Then explain some examples on how we are not inclusive?

The only exclusion in our sport I know is between styles.
Hooked vs unhooked. Foil vs tube. TT versus hydrofoil etc.

I am really trying to understand what you mean.

My question is how we can make our sport more inclusive. Most people responding so far don’t want this question to be asked. Seems like an exhibit of the underlying issue.
The underlying issue is that you're seeing a disparity in *something* and imagining it's because of a nefarious conspiracy.

Poverty is the barrier of getting into this sport and many other sports. Really any activity requiring even basic equipment, plus transportation and plenty of free time, will unfortunately exclude a massive chunk of this world as things stand today. So the answer to the question is the same as the answer to ending poverty worldwide.

I do see a pretty diverse group among kiters on podiums (some disciplines more than others I guess) and among regular riders in average spots. In fact its a great way to meet and make connections with people of all colors from all over the world and share the common interest and joy of this sport. In that way at least, kiteboarding is part of the solution.

If you want a genuine answer, start by getting everyone into swimming at a young age. Without a swimming culture you aren't going to persuade people to partake in watersports as you need to feel comfortable in the water.

The reactions are not intolerance. We just see this for what it is: thinking there is a problem when there isn't.

Of course, I am sure you feel you have the morally superior position since you clearly see a problem which most of the ordinary people don't see.

You are wrong. The truth is not every "community" will have a racial makeup representative of the population in general and there is nothing wrong with that.

Agree. In So. Cal., it's very diverse. Yet, surfing is dominated by white males here. And, it's not a very expensive sport to get into. All it took for me was a Boogie Board and some change for the bus. From there I was hooked. But, I knew how to swim.

I think we should be focused on getting more woman into the sport( all races of course)....lol

I actualy see the original posters idea...I am a lifelong skier and they have programs to get kids from diverse backgrounds and economic situations out on the slopes..I think thats a great idea for kids who may never experience a sport that may not be easily accessible to them..
