Alex Caizergues 57.97 knots board speed in the french mistral wind. They also go fast in Luderitz. Wind speeds get above 60 knots in both places. Normal kiters sit at home when it's too windy.

The highest wind I have kited in is an estimated 55 knot gusts. I say estimated as I didnt have a wind meter on me. But on the drive home which happened to be directly down wind I could put my hand out of the car window at 100kph and feel no wind.....

That day was absolutely stupid and literally death defying. I got lofted in the shallows on my gutless reo 6m on full depower. Then I was fully tapped doing high speed death runs without much control at all. I got out. did a few runs, realized the absolute stupidity and pulled the safety in the shallows. The kite was too powered flagged on the safety to walk the line. I had to drag it into the surf so it became swamped with water. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

So. for me 50 + knots is a no go zone. Its just too ridiculous.

I have have many sessions on the 4 and 6m kites gusting between 35 and 50 knots. These conditions are working for a highly experience storm chaser.
But..... If you have to ask..... you are not experienced enough. Consider building yourself up over many years of practice! and never take a kite out that cannot handle the biggest gust of the day! In those conditions you need to rig for the gust... or you die.

Gusting to 50/55 knots is my max & not advisable, as any small riding mistake & gear failure can result in a mess.

I don´t think that the maximum wind speed ever been kited is relevant.
For me personally, wind speed beyond 30 kts is more stress than fun. And the danger of hurting yourself badly grows with each knot, exponentially.
Since I started hydrofoiling, wind speed between 13 and 18 kts have become my favourite range :D

I agree with the about 30 knots but mostly because 30 knots base wind often mean 40 knots gusts.
E.g. A steady 30 on flat water I find super nice.
Also exposure to high wind conditions make a difference.
If you have 30 knots every week you probably can get quite good at it. With 30 knots a few times a year you never get used to it.
