Chafing / bruises from binding - recommendations?

Postby szert » Wed Jun 17, 2020 9:14 pm

Has anyone had bad bruises on their feet from longer sessions (3-4 hours)?

I tried an Airush binding and Naish Apex, both bruised my feet really bad (I mean bleeding bad), especially when I had sessions only a few days apart.
The one which worked well was H2O binding. It didn't bruise but in winter I couldn't squeeze my booties in it. And it has gone with the tide not long ago.

Am I really need to pay £200 for H2O? And still need to change bindings for winter sessions...

Any tips how to prevent bruising? Or a cheaper option which works well?

My first few pairs all did that. I eventually started getting Ronix boots and have never dealt with it since.

Obviously once the skin is bruised and broken even the kushest pair of boots on the planet with chafe you to hell.

I highly recommend SP Kiteboarding footstraps, the Pro TRS (68 Euros) are nice and soft, and grip the foot very well.

Bummer Ya live so far from Las Vegas ; i got the epoxy, and carbon, to build
ya a brace, that would cover the top of your foot, and Velcro to the entire length of
your shin-bone . When you leaned back ; the carbon would take all the stress . It would
be awkward to walk in ; but you would never be bothered, with what your dealing with now !

Maybe Boots , would be the way to go ?

I wish to be as tough as people in Las Vegas :)

this looks good. Do you know if it works with other footpads or requires their footpad ?

I used to get chafing like that on my toes. Try wearing neoprene fin socks or wetsuit booties.

I have had the chaffing from binding but only on the back of my calves where they rub. I all ways wear socks with my boots. All so try the Hyperlite Systems. All you need is the bindings on the board and you can just swap boots or ride a little bit bigger and use neoprene socks.

if you get an ulcer/ chafe - i used to use this stuff called plastic skin - like a 2mm jell layer you can put on your chafe and duct tape over - so gold - dont get septicaemia though - you let your chafe turn into a bigger and bigger ulcer - keep going back in the water over and over again - until like you can put your finger in the hole without letting it heal - and your immune system may f$%$ up and not be able to fight it - things go real bad quick unfortunately. Drench it in Iodine after each session, but u might just need a break too.

The footstraps fit pther pads, I use them on Shinn pads. I used to get similar abrasions from the fopotstrap, the SP straps are really good and you can loosen them enough to get 5mm, Size 12, booties in winter.
