Carbon or prime ride engine harness question?

Postby B19 ELS » Mon Jun 22, 2020 9:19 pm

Ride Engine harness: is there much difference in the real world use between them or is the carbon one just more as it’s carbon and you pay to say you have the best.
Is the prime one just as good but cheaper?

Anyone have real beach feedback?

It's a difference in the flex profile caused by the materials. The Elite Carbon harness is noticeably stiffer when it's twisted (torsional stiffness) and pinched.
Same goes for Mystic's Majestic X vs Majestic and Ion's Riot CS vs Riot CURV (or Apex CURV vs Apex).
Being "just as good" is a manor of taste. The shape (fit) of the two RE harnesses are identical, so it's personal preference on the amount of support one wants or needs. Same goes for the Mystic and Ion.

I second Da Yoda's opinion - the only difference is flex, I doubt that there is even a weight difference. I personally use Elite, but I have never tried the Prime. I guess the difference in stiffness will be even less noticeable for lighter riders.

If the prime model is even heavier than the carbon/elite model, I´d choose the elite for this reason alone.
I swapped my old 2016 carbon model with the current 2020 carbon model, same size. The weight of the 2020 model is 900 grams higher! Insane! It feels like a tank (weight-wise) compared to the 2016.
Will keep the old thing for air travelling. Where every kg counts.

I went from the regular Majestic to the X. The X is nicer, but not by much. I never had any issues with the old one so even if the pressure is distributed a bit more on the X it was never a real problem with the old.

I probably wouldn't have "upgraded" in hindsight, but if I didn't have a harness and was having to buy one I would have gone with the X (and the stealth bar). I do prefer it, but maybe not with as much as I thought I would.

@Onda - are you serious?! 900gr is quite a hefty difference! Are the spreader bars the same? Because the spreader bar can have a major effect. Can you weigh the 2 harness without spreader bars?

I know that some riders go away from the very stiff ones after the hsve cracked a few ribs. Remember stiffer isn't always better.

Opposite for me... my broken rib feels better in carbon compared to a softer shell.

Ps i broke it in a softer shell.

Seems the carbon shell keeps the spreader in place.

But i moved off the Ride engine after the stitching started making a “ripping” sound when boosting. Lovely harness, but not heavy duty enough for me.

I thinkk is more about your preference and your riding style. I heard from big air guys that ride engine elite carbon is better than the others. I usually ride with the Apex Duotone edition and I have the hybrid hook, that either you can use the hookk or the rope, but this is because of my riding style... When the wind is blowing strong I go for a big air, but I also likke waves, foiling and old school. For sure Ride engine fits likke a glove on your waist
