Low end grunt of naish boxer Vs pivot

Postby Rob112 » Wed Jun 24, 2020 8:54 pm

I have a quiver of 2020 pivots (6,8,10,12). With the 12m I'm finding if it's strong enough to fly without falling I'm overpowered once up on the foil (10-12 knots, likely my skills not keeping the kite up I know), but loving it in around 15-18 knots on the surfboard.

Those who have ridden pivot and boxer, how does the low end power of the pivot compare as the pivot is pretty powerful. Don't want to get rid of the pivot to find the 12m boxer has similar power to my 10m pivot. If the 12 pivot is more powerful than the 12 boxer, maybe I'm better off getting the 14m boxer?

I'm 100kg (hence liking the low end grunt of the pivot), UK south coast conditions, incase extra info helps.

Cheers,

Rob

The Boxer is more powerful than the same size Pivot... I'm not sure by how much though. The Boxer has a deeper profile.

Nice, sounds perfect then as would have liked a 6,8,10,13 quiver, which the 12m boxer might give a feeling of.

The Pivot will be a better kite for high-powered so riding you'll be able to take it to higher winds and it'll still behave well.
The Boxer will still be Ok powered, but the canopy will start to flap (like all single struts do) when overpowered fully sheeted out. Boxer is best for underpowered or medium powered conditions and a better kite for hydrofoiling.

Sounds exactly what I after and you're confirming what I hoped would be the case. My 10m and 8m are my kites for powered conditions. Thanks

I'm a chunky monkey with not the best skills, so like to have decent power.

What low end are you guys getting with a 9m pivot on hydrofoil, or what do you think is realistic ? If you could include your weight that would be helpful. Thanks

So, I have pivot 12/10/8 for TT and boxer 11, slash 9/6 for HF. Frontal winds (rare twin tip 8m sessions) at home beach.

I agree- by the time you get the pivots flying/relaunch easily, you're overpowered on hydrofoil with the 12.

I guess the boxer has better low end... But realistically they're pretty different kites.

I use the boxer because it will fly easily when the pivots would be flopping around or have difficulty relaunching (9-13 kts).

I use the boxer 11 and 12m pivot, neither is redundant. If I dropped a kite, it would be the 8m pivot. Pivot for jumping or powered riding, boxer for hydrofoiling or low wind lawn mowing. Boxer is flappy and high bar pressure in higher winds.
