BBTalkin headset issues

Postby HALF » Fri Jun 26, 2020 9:29 pm

Does anyone use these radios, if you do - do you have to replace the microphones often? I am at my 4th one i think, they last no more than 20-25 sessions... I wash the headsets when i get home and let them dry, but eventually all of them start getting quieter until they stop picking up voice completely.

Call Jeff at Air Padre since I think they use them with students. You might also contact Gath Helmets about the mics they use. Maybe some of the mics from marine radios would be better - some of the ocean lifeguards or their Administration offices, or Coast Guard, Rowing teams, could tell you what they use.

I have had issues with them. I wasnt sure what was going on. One headset was very hard to hear. Thought it was the volume even though it was maxed. I would give the student the one you could hear. It didnt bother me much that I couldn’t hear them.😂.
Am sick of gear not lasting. Went through 3 Trace trackers and gave up. Same issues with Woo. Not surprised Btalking are crapping out. All over priced, huge margin Chinese junk.

We use them in our school.
I have replaced the microphone/speaker units multiple times. It's important to take the foam off the microphones while drying. That seemed to have helped a bit. However, they still die on us all the time.
The quality of kite lessons has become much better due to real time corrections, this justifies for me to buy parts over and over again....

I wrapped the microphones with plastic foil (just one layer so they still pick up audio), and then put the foam on top. Will test to see if this helps the waterproofing and makes them last longer.

Did anyone try one of the IPX7 (waterproof) Motorbike Bluetooth Intercoms? They are much lower in price but I am not sure if mic and headphones are also waterproof. Can anyone share experiences?

We use them when snowkiting. They work great. The drawback are thin and fragile whires. They are not buildt to be submerged, and would never survive this.
