l like to think "be the board, be the board..." whilst in superman shape turning heard to breath like swimming. counting is good but I also try to spot the board first....no leashes.....just google to find out why.

For very light winds , mainky with a hydrofoil, you can't bodydrag since kite will fall to the water. So better solution iIMO is to swimm backward directly upwind, generating some little additional wind in the kite.
Ok, ... very specific to very light winds.

I agree with Nothing2seehere. It's far better, if possibile, to immediately spot your board and go on looking back at it now and then while you're body dragging upwind. Much easier to find it than body dragging first and trying to find the board later.
If you lose sight of your board you can use the kite to lift you up and take a look.

Sometimes I just zoom into the beach and wait for my board to drift in. Or land the kite and swim out for it. Or point at it while someone kites out and grabs it for you. As soon as I see someone body dragging I make it my mission to get their board and drag it down wind of them.

I have had problems with a Airush Vapor X, i have never had any problems with superman before i got that kite, but for some reason i cannot go upwind when doing Superman, this means that i did not like to go far away from shore, specially if i was surfing at a spot were the board could get lost. Could them problem be kite specific?
The kite goes very well upwind when surfing..

Simplistically the only thing the superman knows is the line tension and the pull force is simply in the direction of the lines.

My guess is that the kite is fast flying low camber and sits very forward in the window. Plenty of feel when there is lots of apparent wind but feels gutless when body dragging. Try setting the pig tails so that you can trim out enough to oversheet and make it sit a little further back in the window while dragging. Might be worth trying but, this is just a guess!

I do a doggy paddle swim can pretty much go straight upwind (one hand on the bar, paddling with my other hand and kicking with my legs). In my experience it is the fastest way to get back to your board.
Despite almost everyone saying that this will not work: I make the same experience! Unless your board is further away than say 7 meters, you should directly swim towards it, with the kite totally depowered.
When loosing your board in breaking waves / strong current: Immideately watch out for your board´s position. Then powerfully steer your kite to get dragged into the direction of your board as fast as possible. If you don´t do this VERY fast, you might never see your board again. Be careful not to get slingshoted into your board, though.

There is a lot of difference between the drift rates and power requirements of a TT and a directional. If you are low powered on a directional often you can swim a little or wait for it to come to you. Powered on a TT I think it would be very difficult to swim up but you will have the kite power to body drag effectively. You just have to adapt to the circumstances. In breaking waves you often have to chase it down wind, just don't arrive too fast as already mentioned.

Tip I was given was kite at 45 degrees as too low drags you downwind and buries your face and too high lifts and you lose lateral resistance so go downwind.
