Sunglasses & Kite - what to use?

Postby lucasgs » Wed Jul 22, 2020 4:01 pm

Hi fellow kiters!

I wonder if someone has any indication on what to use to avoid fog/salt marks on the sunglasses while kiting.
I have seen some use Rain-X (plastic) and have good results.

Anybody with some experiences to share? :)

Thanks!

I use Oakley’s hydrophobic treatment and it helps...for a while. I typically treat every 2-3 weeks if kiting every day. Best results if applied after deep cleaning and using mild neutral ph soap For daily washing. I do this on factory treated hydrophobic lenses.

Cool. I might try that Oakley one.

I use Muc-Off antifog and it works quite well. Occasionally I have to completely immerse myself in the water as I might get spots, but as soon as I do that they usually go almost crystal clear. I wish they handled occasional spray slightly better though.

I have sensible eyes and use sunglasses for every session (winter, summer, rain or sun).
I don't use any specific product but rinse glasses with fresh water after each session.
During the session, the thing I find the easiest is to put my head under water from time to time to wash any fog or drop on the glass.

Thanks! I will definitely give it a try! There are many nano coatings now days, but none that I found to be useful on sunglasses

Lick the front and back of the lens before the session and then rinse with the water you ride in e.g. by dunking your head before water start.

I tried a bunch of glasses and goggles over the years. I won't spend more than 100 $. Kite in air water temps from 2c to 30c.

Last year I bought Forward Wip sunglasses for 75€. They only fog a little in really cold conditions and my hooded head ventilates warmer air on inside of the glasses. Otherwise if it's over 10c nothing at all. So I'm happy with them.
They reccomend to only wash glasses with fresh water, no soap, and dry off. It's worked so far.

Thanks for the great tips, definitely going to try the Oakley stuff. I've definitely had problems with water drops, and salt drying on them.

I used to use cheap Knockaround glasses, but the polarizing finish kept delaminating, so I switched back to Oakleys. I probably lost 6 pairs with 6 different attachment systems before I found one that works. Figured I'd pass that costly learning on to this group:

The chums floating halfpipe has been the only one that worked long term, even in waves.

I don't know what Lip glasses has on their lenses but its just never an issue. Expensive but worth every penny because you just don't notice them being on.

Anti-fog spray for swimmers' goggles. Or saliva.
