Cabrinha Airlock valve functionality

Postby beebad » Fri Jul 31, 2020 1:56 pm

Tracking down an air leak on a switchblade.

Turns out the main bladder is intact, but if the main airlock isn't cranked down, it will leak There. Also, if the cap is not on, the air can be heard.....i don’t think i have this problem on any other kite in my quiver.

The air valve is designed not to lose air as it is disconnected from pump, so its time to replace this valve yes?

Any ideas?

From where? If it's not seating properly when you screw it in, it'll leak. But most likely the rubber flap that seals the valve is borked so yeah go ahead and order one :D

Check rubber O-ring on valve cap, remove any sand. Secure firmly.

Inflate part shouldn't loose air when on full inflate, check if rubber stopper for inflate part is free of sand and intact.

When you screw in the valve, do not tighten it too much until the kite is close to being fully inflated as you risk twisting the bladder. After fully inflating, tighten the valve and then back it off just a bit. If you overtighten it, the rubber oring/gasket could "bunch up" causing it to deform and leak. Also, when deflating, I put a towel in front of the valve as one time the air pressure blew the oring/gasket off the valve and I had a hard time finding it. I bought a spare after that.

Dude pump it hard and soap it. You need to find out exactly where on the valve it's leaking so you don't have to replace everything. Could just be missing a gasket on the Boston valve cap. You can cut out a piece of tire inner tube to make a new gasket
