I bought a "Thera-gun" knock off for the tendonitis in my elbow (under $100). Best thing I have ever done. I gun the sore tendons daily to get blood going in there. World of difference--truly.

Hi,

I have kited quite intensively for 15 days in waves and the upper side of my left foot is quite swolen and the tendons hurt. Most days were very windy with a lot of chop, also on the wave.

The wind was blowing from the right meaning I was riding with my left foot forward and 90 % of the time front side. I use footstraps and did very little jumping.

Has anyone had the same experience before or is this strange?
This has never happened to me before. No animal stung me, no accident I can recall.

Thanks.
Is the foot sore because of pressure from the footstrap (strap too tight) ... or is it sore from arching your foot within the strap (strap too loose)? I have experienced both of these. It's hard to avoid either of these if you're doing more intensive riding than you're used to. It's a repetitive strain injury, like lots of other repetitive strain injuries. You'll need to take a break, or ride with a different set up, like strapless while your foot recovers.

Thanks a lot to all of you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

Yes, I rest, use anti inflamatory gel, ice pack and put the foot up. I have already made some small progress.

If it continues progressing this way I may try biking on the weekend as in my experience too much rest can be counter productive and some moderate exercise different from the one that caused the problem in the first place can be helpful. Let me see.

As suggested, I need to pay attention to the footstrap itself on my newer board (I did not use the bew board exclusively but more and in the tougher conditions) for possible edges which may cause tendon irritation or to the footstrap setting.

Generally I use to set them to be quite open to allow complete foot insertion for maximum leverage over my board when carving. I wonder if the tendons actually suffer from upward arching to lock the foot in a wide strap when going in a straight line or quite the opposite due to strong strap pressure when carving hard. It could also well be that the foot suffers most when going switch for too often too long.

In my experience sometimes a small change in habits can make the difference. So I will pay attention to the points mentioned by you and commented above.

Thanks again.

Longer term you might also try some different foot and lower leg exercises, stretch and strength types, to see if they would help.

I feel your pain - it is surprising how painful some of this stuff is - I thought my arm was broken once and it was tendinitis.

Good luck

I really like soft dual density pads, easier on my knees.
Which brand makes these soft dual density pads?

Sounds like "extensivekitermania" Its a malady that most could only dream of, its a hard earned ailment that many aspire to. In the same class as "toomuchsexia"

Reminds me about my noob days when during one of our kite trips down South - I was stuck riding an extra-wide light-wind board in moderate chop for the first two days... and for the rest of the trip I was really regretting it as my ankles were shot. The fact that back then I was setting my straps on the tight side - really didn't help the cause.

The takeaway: loosen these damn straps and don't be shy to ride smaller and softer boards. In well lit conditions anything over 135-137cm for a 90kg riders is an overkill.

https://www.northshoreinc.com/store/pc/ ... ategory=64

They will also custom make a pad for a very reasonable fee if you send them a template.

Or you can buy raw material and make your own.
