Carrying your inflated kite up the beach. With Bar, lines, and board

Postby psz211 » Sat Aug 08, 2020 9:19 pm

I have always walked my kite up the beach by flipping it over and putting it over my shoulder or under my arm. I see other people do this way more effectively.

I can't find advice on this anywhere.
I've seen some people take their inflated kite, put it over their shoulder and attach their leash to the kite pump attach spot in the center of the leading edge. They manage to walk all the way up the beach by just holding the leash and carrying their board under their arm. I've done this, but my bar and lines get tangled and get in the way. So I'd love to learn how to actually do it.

I've seen a guy on a surfboard paddle back after a light wind down-winder, holding the kite with his feet. Where he put the bar I'm not sure, but the lines were somewhat dragging in the water.

I'm looking on ways to carry that help you just set down and re-launch as well.

Any tips or videos on this?

Thanks!

Not sure about videos about this. With the right wind direction I find holding the leash and letting the wind carry the upside down kite the easiest. Where the wind is blocked i carry the leading edge in my armpit and grab the center strut to lift it. sometimes I will flatten the board with the other hand and push under on the center strut to lift the kite higher. in terms of bars and lines I carry the bar in the hand with the board. typically I leave extra line out until I flip the kite then wind on to ensure it isnt dragging on the ground.

Thanks, I guess I'll just keep watching folks on the beach and try doing bar and board in same hand.

The way I carry for a drift launch:

Wind lines up from down wind. Pass bar over canopy putting it just in front of LÊ. Walk round to windward side of kite and hook in. Attach leash to pump attachment and flip kite. Leave bar dangling so hands are free!

To launch from sand flip kite back over and pass bar back over canopy. If drifting flip kite back and unwind lines walking slowly backwards. Once lines are out release kite and dunk for sideways drift.

When the tide is out we wind up our lines, then push a finger between the lines and bar, then use that hand to hold the kite upside down. Board under other arm. Walk up beach.

My brother will hold bar and lines with the board, but that requires effort which I am alleric to.
