Weigh your unwrapped surfboard please if you do airs

Postby longwhitecloud » Sat Aug 15, 2020 11:32 am

With fins wax and pads please

I am noticing that there is a surfboard weight that is too much for unstrapped floaty airs .. where you fly high in the air and can keep it on your feet facing the wind.

I have snapped so many lightweight boards that I love so much ( firewires.. soo light!(, but it is unsustainable$

I have full pvc sandwich board that is bullet proof ( even snapped my leg in half a few years back) but it is too heavy despite being a 4'11

Gathering info/ opinions on max weight for my next board.. a custom..

Thx

Ok so far

Firewire tomo 5'3 3.03kg with fins and decks

Custom full pvc wrap 4'11 3.65kg with fins and deckpad

You got to consider the projected area of the board when flying into the wind too.

The more area at the same weight the more force pushing back on your feet.

I have found huge differences between boards good for unstrapped boosting.

I know what I want but need it to stay in one piece.

Maybe consider the F-One Magnet Carbon, 2.3 Kilos.

Light boards are so much better at strapless airs in < 30 knots, I keep tabs on the weights of all my boards:

Exile DC 50.5 carbon skim w/ pad: 5.4 lbs / 2.45 kg
Wave Bandit Performer 4-10: 5.6 lbs / 2.54 kg
Catch 54 special thruster: 6.5 lbs / 2.95 kg
OR Jester quad w/ pad: 7.6 lbs / 3.45 kg
Catch Stump 5-0 quad: 8.2 lbs / 3.72 kg
Shinnster w/ Launchpad: 9.2 lbs / 4.17 kg
Cabrinha Secret Weapon 5-2: 9.4 lbs / 4.26 kg

That's what makes the Wave Bandit Performer 4-10 such a magic board, super light weight, soft on the body and only $150.
