I think we all need to see this thread for what it is.

This, my kite forum friends is a call for help.

Our long esteemed friend Longwhitecloud is hurting. We don't really know why, because I can't actually imagine that the IKO has had any true impact on his life in any real material way, but none the less he is hurting. I want us all to acknowledge our collective delinquency in not recognizing this earlier and for letting him publicly flog himself this way for so very long. Once a youthful source of inspiration, or at least so he tells us, we have failed to support his emotional journey and development, and as a result he has withered on the vine and is in real danger of fulfilling his own prophecy of embodying the crochetty old disgruntled kiter, relegated to poo poo ing the state of his sport and lamenting the inevitable arrival or something new. Someone down there in the land of abundant waves and free parking needs to stage an in person intervention. Between us we can surely crowd fund the resources to get this guy out of the basement and out on the water. Get him a new to him toy, maybe a two year old Torch at a fantastic price because no one actually buys true C kites anymore, and a dime a dozen freestyle twin tip (with or without the handle, as I'm still not sure if he goes that way). Ask his mum nicely if he can come out to play on a nice non foiling winds day, and see if he still has that spark that almost made him a youtube sensation back in the day. We've all seen it, a good day on the water can erase a near decade of negativity. Catch his kite at the end and hand him a beer and pay a few of the local riders to hang out with him until his bedtime.

@ LWC,

I hear you buddy, life can be shit and the IKO even shitier. But lets pick that chin up. Things could be way worse. You could have to pay for parking!

...Wing foil all about feeling and sensations...
Then, perhaps snowf̶l̶a̶k̶e̶ foiling would be a better term?

Seriously, several years ago this forum has been filled in with threads how exciting a kitefoling ride (and maneuvers) are. I was thinking to myself: "Just give it a time, and it will feel as exciting as bicycle ride"

I bet you could make nearly any branch of the sport look lame as f***!

Keep your identity politics out of kiting.

I bet you ride in very straight lines.

Dude, why do you have such an axe to grind against this? Did some winger come and offend your mother? Just let these two sports live harmoniously.

As for the comment about “no racers are winging”, Theo de Ramecourt has been posting tons stories to his IG of him doing it. Not everyone has to be all in one camp. You can wing, free ride, race, TT, sail, windsurf, etc. and enjoy every aspect that wind sports has to offer.

No man, not at all. I'm feeling pretty pro wing these days.

Purely disdain for Tegir, no hate on winging.

The only real time I've seen it working was in big wind and they were all pretty stoked about it. I was impressed. They definitely outperformed the roughly equal number of windsurfers. Much more interactive with the swell and back upwind much faster. I think they were all windsurfer converts. The guy making the best of the waves was out on both.

My point about racing... well that's not hate either. Thats simple understanding of the people I know who race kites. I'm not saying racers can't enjoy a little fun with a wing, but any of the hardcore racers that cycle through here (and there are some competent ones) are all from sailing backgrounds. They have spent their lives moving to ever faster and more powered craft. They get stoked by being Powered on 11m kites when anyone else is foiling on a 4. Not saying they can't enjoy something completely different in their down time, but I'll eat my words if there is a mass shift from hydrofoil kite racing to hydrofoil wing racing. It just aint gonna happen.
