thinner race lines on my slingshot compstick,,,recommendations

Postby papasmerf » Mon Sep 21, 2020 4:29 pm

as i get more into foiling, i am using more lightwind oriented kites, strutless, one strut, or thinking of getting a foilkite,,,, so i wanted to upgrade my lines to some nice lightweight race lines.. has anyone kept their old slingshot bar, i have both sentinal and guardian and just put some race lines on it?

any recommendations for race type lines for someone who is not into racing but just wants better lines for lightwind?

was looking at the ozone lines.

Can't speak to the Slingshot bar, but for 3 years I've been very happy with my Ozone Race lines. When I go back and try a conventional bar & lines I really notice a difference in wind drag... and maybe even light wind water relaunches. I only foil, and you need to wait for more responses here if you intend to jump with race lines. I almost never jump and I wouldn't know if it's wise.

Not much of a difference unless you are using a high performance foilkite, with a race hydrofoil and are using short lines (less than 15 mt)

I use 30 m lines in 4 to 6 knots of wind.

0,83 mm Liros DCPro.

Sometimes I even use 0,6 mm for the rear lines, has worked till now but a bit afraid it will break, so using 0,83 mm the most.

Until now Slingshot has used different line length for center and back lines, so make sure you mention the difference when you order your set. I personally wouldn’t use neither the Sentinel
nor Guardian for foiling, certainly not in their standard setup but race lines are awesome and I like my Ozone line set Jeff Howard got me (24m + 6m extensions for lightwind)

But for racing it seems thicker lines which are stiffer, are preferred.

I use them for the lightest wind only, and not short, so not powered like for a race setup, totally different.

I got my sets made/spliced from Frank.

SK shapes sells racing lines in Europe, shipping to US is cost prohibitive for just a line set.

I buy Liros DC in bulk from Greenhat and splice my own. If someone would like a set made, shoot me a PM.

It is somewhat more difficult it seems, but possible, to splice when you are well below 1 mm diameter.

This is why I dont wanna splice the 0,6 and 0,8 mm lines myself.

And these thin lines has to be spliced, as they will cut themeselves much earlier than thicker more normal lines where a good knot or sleeving is sufficient in a hurry.

One thing to note though, is these thin lines tend to sing in the wind - just beware of this might happen.

Not much of an issue when going slow in marginal winds, but might be for those going fast?

Eventhough, if you can hear a high C like Bianca Castafiore, you know you go fast ha haaa
