Naish Triad downgrade from Ride?

Postby j0ris » Sat Sep 26, 2020 9:22 pm

I see quite a bit of praise for the Naish Ride as a beginner freeride (and more) kite.

But Naish replaced the Ride by the Triad in 2019. The latter seems to barely get any attention at all. Is the consensus that the Triad is a downgrade rather than an upgrade from the Ride?

I'm asking as I'm looking for a beginner friendly but not totally boring kite, and there seem to be some deals for the 2018 Ride.

As a side note, I can't find any wind charts for the Ride. What size would be best for a 75 kg beginner?

Triad is a way better kite than the old 2 strut ride.
Read the kite test and other forums.
Triad is not as beginner orientated as the ride.
The tide did pull hard in a loop or turn.
But Triad has better relaunch more low end as has a luff strut.
It's responsiveness is way better also can megaloop the Triad easy.
The middle strut is a luff strut so gives better relaunch in lighter winds doesn't stick to the water.
But feel more nimble in your hands. Also has amazing immediate depower and doesn't fall from sky.
I'm amazed not as many surf crew are riding this kite.
It won't beat pivot for Kota or megalooping but that's not what it was designed for.
Still easy as to boost agile.
It's actually a kick ass kite.
If you're not trying to break whoo hoo woo records it ticks all the boxes.

Hopefully this helps.
I'm in a lucky position where I can test and ride nearly all major brands for an extended period and refer the feedback to local riders on the beach.
IMO more beginners should be on Triad but shops have pivots as floor stock so they end up with a pivot and they won't progress quick as pivot fly's more forward in window.

Thanks for your input!

There just is very little "neutral" info on the Triad. The big magazines / sites seem to praise any kite they review.

There is a German video review that was not all good: lag, not enough feedback on the bar, need big arms for depower, no great jumping. They said the Naish Boxer performs better. https://gleiten.tv/index.php/video/acti ... /page/345/

According to The Kite mag Triad is the best kite in all-around freeride category (compared not only within Naish line) :)

I have not ridden the Triad, but in my view the Pivot is very suitable for beginners and you will hardly outgrow that kite unless you progress into unhooked tricks. I taught my kids on it without any issues.

I own a Ride 8m , it’s excellent when foiling, Very light and just enough « grunt » » to kick your start.
But on a TT or surf in higher winds.... if you are a beginner, it’s just ok , But it won’t jump.
It’s a free ride kite only.

Between both, I would choose the triad any day....expect foil days...

Salut

Wow this is great. I have always been wondering. I do think its weird, but new kites always seems to take a few years to settle in the market. A friend of mine was such a fan of the rides, and he is a super good kiter, but the kite had a reputation as a beginner kite even if it is not neccessarily one. He used it for waves and strapless freestyle. I kind of convinced him to get into the slash, but your review I might have given him the wrong advice even if the slash is a super good kite.

Btw. as you were asking in another thread about the suitability of a wave kite and you are looking for some offers on sale: the Naish Slash would be an excellent option. It is a wave kite but also very good as freeride kite on a Twin Tip.

Of course you should, but according to me that applies to gleiten.tv as well.
