Best materials to make fins from?

My new Naish twintip came with black fins which appear to be some type of carbon injection plastic.... They look a bit cheap compared with G10 glass fins which I've had from Naish and other brands.

I always thought that G10 fibreglass were the most premium fin construction. Does anyone know whether this new style of fin construction is better/worse than G10?

Even with "fiber reinforcement", injected plastic is cheap junk.

Assuming you get a good size/shape, you will see improvement by switching to just any set of g-10. Foam or wood-core epoxy fiberglass fins are good too.

I thought the same. It's a shame that many of the big brands including Naish and Duotone are selling premium price products with cheap junk accessories.

SP Boarding makes really nice fins for a reasonable price.
I've had these Spirit 50 G-10 fins on several boards for the last 5 years. They ride well and hold up great.

I hate the cheap plastic fins. The second they bump bottom and get kind gouged or furry, you can feel the board not track as well.

I misread and thought surf fins in my initial reply. Not so big of a performance difference with normal size twintip fins, except of course as Poacher said they tend get pretty crappy pretty quickly if they touch bottom.

Yeah Trent I was going to say holy hell you have pretty fine tuned foot if you can feel the difference between a G10 and Injected fin on a TT. My TT fins tends to get ground down regardless of material so not sure if it matters too much.

On the surfboards I think the most important is strength. Cheap plastic fins breaks when I hit the top of the wave with some speed. Better fins does not.
