5mm boots & board short harness recommendations

Postby CTsurfer77 » Sun Oct 11, 2020 12:33 pm

I’m looking to upgrade my equipment that’s quite old by now. Besides a kite I’m also looking for some new boots for fall & winter and a newer harness. The boots should be comfy for Roman style feet (2nd toe slightly longer than the big one).
I’ve been riding with a board short harness since the beginning and prefer it over the waist harness. Used to get back problems with my Mystic waist harness. I have a Dakine harness that’s probably 8 years old by now. Wondering if the newer ones are more comfy or if there are any good alternatives to Dakine. Also open to try a waist harness if it’s really good. Thank you.

What makes them so nice please? Are they warm? Says they have thin souls. Are they durable?

Ion board shorts are a slight upgrade from Dakine IMO, a little more padding and robust feel. I really wish they would add a little more padding and back support...

Thanks for the info on the Ion shorts. I was looking at those. +1 for Santa’s shopping list 😁. Also thanks for the info on the boots. They look awesome. Just wish they would sell these here in the US.

Ion ballistic 6mm were the best and most conflu Boots o had had them in about 2027. I think it was 18 or 2919 though they bought a dodgy batch and the ankles were way too big on them sadly. Haven’t had a pair since. Was tempted to buy them again and see if they had foxed the issue now but would make sure I bought the2021 ones to make sure to avoid the older ones still floating about that may have the loose ankles.
The Solite do look interesting but most can’t see how they can be warm with so ja thin sole on them. Also my launch area is pebbles. Are those things soles enough to stop sharp stones hurting your feet is there is no padding down there ?

I don't know how they did it, but they are warm, stable despite the barefoot feeling! 👍🏽
Last week I walked every day over streets, stones, shells to the beach and they still look like new!!
As I said... best boot I ever had!
I might can ship you one, just write me directly...

I have feet much like yours and I've found boots labeled as "round toe" seem to fit my foot shape best. Mystic's Marshall RT 5mm, Neil Pryde's MissionHC RT 5mm (what I'm currently using), and Prolimit's Predator 5mm are a few that may work for ya.

I've also found some "split-toe" booties (especially internal) to be very comfortable for our foot shape and you get the added benefit of reducing any twisting of the bootie around your foot. Prolimit's Evo3D HT 5.5mm is next on my to buy list.

If you can, try on a few brands. They all have their own individual fit. Same goes for the short harnesses. I'll 2nd what others have said, I think Ion's B2 harness is much better and more comfortable than Dakine's. Neil Pryde's Tracker Short is another option. :thumb:
