Core Bar to Low V

Postby jorg » Tue Oct 27, 2020 8:08 pm

Hi
I've tried many bars in the past month from many brands that released in the last 6months. Core Sensor 3 is the winner for me when it comes, design, ergonomics, simplicity..etc I am very happy with my kite quiver, no desire to buy Core kites. I'd love to integrate that bar into my quiver.

wondering if anybody has tried to convert the core bar high bar system to a single flag low V?
I have some ideas but I thought maybe someone already has accomplished that so I could save some time. :D

I guess the main problem for converting it is that you need to have tension on both CL lines which go through the bar to have the auto-rotation system work. Flysurfer has the similar two lines through the bar done, so that's the easiest to copy I guess?

Heresy, using a Core bar on anything other than Gods chosen kite brand. Don't do it, or hell and damnation will follow. :wink:

flysurfer has fifth line for auto-untwist in their infinity bar which is not great if you predominately rotate one way as fifth line wraps around one of the front lines.

Another picture:

If you're going to DIY it ... why not just use long leaders? So you have however long center trim/safety needs to be then rear leaders long enough that your front and rear lines are the same length? Surely that's the same thing to the kite as a low-V system...?

I had an Ocean Rodeo bar (that I wish I never sold) that used BTB trim and a double-front safety...but the rear leaders were long so the front and rear lines were the same length. Think they were slightly shorter than the Cab IDS bars ie. 2.8m vs 3m or some such.

The Flysurfer mini-5th does indeed twist around the front line, but takes many sessions to do so ... and the safety line can be easily pulled through the QR, untwisted and threaded back down. Carry some spare line in your kite bag just in case you can't do it without. Has to be really twisted tight to impede the flagging out in the slightest way...

@omg
thanks for the reminder, yes there has to be some sort of tension on the depower lines.
my idea was to convert or mimic Reedin or the new Slingshot bar.
@Kamikuza
hmm thanks for the idea.

As far as I can tell...

Left tube contains safety line to front line in that block. Grr.
Right tube contains depower line to block to trim line.

So it doesn't look like it's a double depower line through the bar and I'm guessing that's why they had to use PU in both lines -- not though tension to unspin otherwise.

I think the Switch bar is very similar as well.

But they all rely on that stupid front line block.

I am pretty sure Switch bars have one depower line and one single line for flagging with no auto twist. Somebody commented - I guess here can't find it now - that Reedin auto twist doesn't work as advertised.

it Looks like an auto-twist on the new Slingshot works OK. The only difference I sensed was the depower line slightly thicker than Sensor 3 as the flag line has to pass-through

I didn’t like the sensor 3 pro on my xr6 been flying it on an ozone for ages. Much nicer.
