Tear Aid A won't stick to bladder

Postby Jyoder » Wed Nov 04, 2020 4:17 pm

Repairing a 2015/16 Slingshot Turbine and find that Tear Aid A won’t stick to the bladder. I’ve repaired a few bladders and never had this problem. Is this brand/model using a different bladder material? Supposedly this bladder is stock. I’ve cleaned it thoroughly with alcohol.

I've seen that happen before when people put too much baby powder around the bladder in order to help seat it. Rubbing alcohol is unable to remove the residue of the powder what you have to do is get some sandpaper and lightly sand the bladder where you want to apply the patch to mechanically get rid of the microscopic particles.

Alternatively you can get a tube of aquaseal or 3m5200 and put a thin layer on it will act like a patch and is stickier than tape

Isopropyl alcohol rub after a light scuff with 300 grit sandpaper. I do this on all bladder repairs

Also - if it's cold - the adhesive doesn't bond well.
Warm both side with a hairdryer and when stuck in place get it good and warm again to make the adhesives really bond well.

just use or back it up with aquaseal. i have had a number of failures with tear aid over the years and once I started using aquaeseal- no issues.
