Well, they're not the only one hoping to break the 150 km/h limit.

Here's a video form the Syroco team (with Alex Caizergue) showing their speedcraft.
It seems that both concepts are similar in some points but I find the Syroco approach more original, using a foil as an anchor.

SP80 project.
The interview is in French but very interesting.
They talk about : using a three contact points on the water, symetric vs asymetric boat, using super cavitating/ventilating foil in order to use maximum power from the kite, computer simulation vs real tests on water, financing the project...

Can that work? With the foil as an anchor, providing downward lift, the weight of the boat has to be taken by the tension between the foil and the kite, so the pull from the kite has to be much higher than the weight of the boat
Are you sure it's not just "excess of creativity" on the animation and the foil, indeed, goes on the other side acting as a normal foil, lifting the boat out of the water

In fact, both projects (Syrocco and SP80) use the same approach i.e. foil be used as an anchor to counteract the pull of the kite. But they will use supercavitating foil.
As explained during the interview with the SP80 crew, it is just a mater of where you put the cursor. SP80 chose stability over performance. It will be a one man boat.
Syrroco chose performance first but it will be a 2 man craft (one for direction, the other for the kite). They intend to use a 30m² to 50m² kite depending on the wind condition.
I don't know if it will work, but the team is convinced as they are building their first prototype in order to begin tests just after winter.

King of the air? Sure, when the foil breaches it will be epic, boosting super high. Hopefully the pilot can steer the kite a lot or it will pendulum under the kite and create a huge mess!
