There is another example with the first GKA Foil freestyle competition in Brazil last November. As said in the title, it was a freestyle competition and in my opinion, I thought Charles Brodel won this event because he was sending handle passes, foil-board-off and technical freestyle tricks. But the judges decided that Fred Hope won. He is a very good rider with lots of style but on this one I disagree with the judges.
I think there will always be controversy when several great athletes are ranked by a complete subjective decision.
However, rules for the Kota have not changed and height is still the most important scoring factor.
In the skippers meeting it was agreed that handle passes don't count.
But judging just sux, too often personal choices...luckily I compete only with myself now. Way more fun and I always win

Yes.
If the competition isn't good enough, then don't have the entry as a prize. If it is good enough and the point is to create interest in kiting and get someone unknown on the world stage, don't allow pros to compete. Have them put on exhibitions instead.
If they want to make it part of a world Big Air World Tour (I'm 100% behind) with a lot of the big names coming, great. You could reserve a few spots for locals to help with kiting interest and give them a chance to show their capability. Have 4 or so feeders for the big event, KOTA, in CT.

www.thesurfr.app has that function already implemented and I know the developer is working hard to update other features regarding that.
I was at the Cold Hawaii comp and Jamie Overbeek was using it. Pretty interesting to follow that and the live scoring at the same time.
If every KOTA competitor would have a phone on themselves (wetsuit mode) or on the board (boardmount) the judges could focus more on the extremity and style and not the height, that would already be available for them.
I actually quite like this. It would give some hard data for the judges and be more transparent in the judging. If it was into the later rounds, the real-time jump data would be useful for the competitors. They could see if they were getting the height required vs how the judges were scoring the previous rounds.

The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2020 with the final announcement to be made by December 10.
It should have been yesterday
Anybody knows where and when the list of selected riders will be announced ?

Good selection I think, but also 2 strange names. Steven Akkersdijk in it, although no video seen of him. Tom Bridge in there, probably because he is sponsored by Red Bull. I assume Angely and Airton are in there because of of female rider and a strapless rider.
All-in-all, quite a nice lineup with big name riders.

Thanks for the list... Red Bull site really sucks, seems impossible to find anything from there.
Imo it's great to have Tom in, since he has potential to do something different (awesome style + blind/wrapped landings + high passes). Maybe board-off is not the thing anymore since it seems that now everyone can do it...
