and new variants popping up all over the northern hemisphere which is 50 to 70% more catchable than the first one ,its a treat to humanity , just the speed that the original virus is mutating into something much worst should concern us all -nobody knows where this will end and it all paints a very dark picture of our future
it was originally thought it was just the old that were the worry but now its hitting the young too
i'm as pissed of as any of you are- i had 4 days lined up of onshores at my local beach after having a brilliant saturday landboarding day and i was revved up to go but then this kicks in, and rumours suggest lockdown could go on for quite a bit longer yet
EDIT-
just had a look at the BBC and its says on there "great concern for the south african variant", posted 4 mins ago on the main page ,and they are not sure if the vacine's developed will touch it so make of it what you will
Not sure if that is all that relevant for this thread, but if the vaccine doesn't work what do people suggest we do? Permanent lockdown? To use a phrase from another thread here - what is your "long game" then?
Any good kite spots in Belarus? Might be our only hope.
You are simply demonstrating how little you understand about these vaccines. No wonder you go on and on about your doubts about them in the other thread. The spike protein will not be changed completely in any new variants, as that would prevent it from working as an attachment point to our cells, so even a mutated spike protein will still have regions, called epitopes, that will be recognized by some of the polyclonal antibodies the vaccine induces our immune system to express. Even if the virus somehow mutated its spike protein to both function in attachment and evade all of the antibodies generated in our polyclonal response, we could easily reengineer the vaccines in short order to express the new variant.

Good for Kevin not to break the rules, no matter how frustrating. At the end he suggests ways to get into the water without touching the beach! How about a tow-up behind a car and then glide down to water? Just hard to get back out without touching the beach!
Anyway, I'm beyond sad that I am not in Cape Town again this season, first time in a decade, but here's two other things folks might want to try instead of kiting. First is to hike the India-Venster route on Table Mountain instead of Lion's Head, it is a spectacular hike and completely doable for any able-bodied person (just google it). Second is the City Rock climbing gym, one of the best in the world, in Parden Eiland, between Bloubergstrand and downtown (tiny conflict of interest - it is owned and run by one of my old climbing friends, Snort, aka Charles Edelstein).
Book three or four nights in Kruger National Park, fly to Joburg and rent a car. Enjoy the drive through the northern edge of the Drakensburg and the park is magnificent. We did that with two visiting kite friends last January and it was awesome, lots of lions, elephants, buffalo, a few rhinos, and one magnificant male leopard. And if you also enjoy all the amazing birds it is off the charts excellent.
But there are also many other great parks to visit as well, just not as spectacular.
Head up the west coast to Port Nolloth or other obscure beaches in the Northern Cape.
There are innumerable other great hikes all over Table Mountain, and the inland mountains, just do some googling (and don't hike alone). My sister does such a hike every weekend with friends.
