I have a 3rd hand Ozone Chrono 12m that I've been using recently. However, it's exhibiting back stalling and braking when I sheet the bar in. When I sheet out the kite grabs a tonne of power and I am suddenly either airborne or pendulumed underneath the kite, if I don't direct upwind quickly enough. It's a beast!
I've watched the videos and checked the bridles, so I think this is something else. Yes, 4-line bar is equal as well. Any tips please?

Its normal behaviour for a foilkite thats High aspect.
With no depower you usually stall the kite a bit while sheeting in fully. so then you ride with the bar sheeted out, between fully sheeted out and halfway sheeted in is where you find its Power. Or you depower it alot and ride it that way.

its good to use a bar with an effective depower trim system that shortens the front lines with about 30cm+ from my experience, thats when you finally find a way to depower such a kite. But you also need to push upwind hard and brake with your board to handle its Power.

Its also good to know that if you start using a system that shortens the frontlines that much it could make the kite a bit unstable if its old and not properly trimmed. (Shortend bridle lines).

My v2 13m does not do that.

I did install 10cm pigtails on back lines tho. However, on 24m lines its crap, not my liking.

Try shorter lines.

Sounds like Z line has shrunk. As stated before, add a couple CM pigtails to the Z lines. IF you really want to be precise, measure out the entire bridle for shrinkage. That kite is a power beast but was very finicky about its bridles and after this much time, I’m sure it’s out of tune.

How much experience do you have with foil kites?

The Chrono v1 has a lot of issues. The V2 fixed almost all of them. But it left 2 things - lots of controls to manage throughout the wind window, and high aspect requiring bridle checks.

If you are coming from an inflatable background, it's like going from an automatic transmission car to a jet fighter. You need to get some time under the kite to learn those controls you never had access to before.

You can "castrate" the kite by adding length to the steering lines, but then you lose "stall capabilities" that are really nice for power ON/OFF anywhere in the window.

If you are hydrofoiling with it, it's not losing anything useful if you do "castrate" it with longer back lines. Even my inflatables get a little more steering line length when I ride a hydrofoil, though my inflatables are terrible hydrofoil kites.

What adventure said. If you have not tuned the mixer then I'd suggest adding 4-6 cm to z. This is not the same as lengthening the rear lines.

8 years actually

But I am relatively new to high aspect foil kites like the Chrono. I came from the Peter Lynn Arc days and Flysurfer Speed 3 or older. I only got this kite in the last year and it's been a demon in power that I am not used to. Nevertheless, I've had some great floaty jumps and rides but I have to be extra careful with pulling the bar in too much or too soon. Of course I know how to jump (loadnpop etc), but I am mostly used to LE kites for jumping. Anyway, I do think the Z line has shrunk and I'll do a retest this weekend.

What bar size would you recommend? My biggest bar is 60cm.

Yeah that's the only video that shows how it's done. Thanks. Took me a while to realise he got those differences in measurements from the official line plan but less the lengths of A and Z, etc.

If your flying lines (front and back) are of equal length, the speed system is within tolerance and all looks good with the main bridle it may be a case of practice flying the kite on the beach in light winds in order to get fully acquainted with the kite.
I have the Chrono 12m (V1), it’s a great kite and performs just as well as it did when I bought back in 2014/2015.
