My Dirty Dogs finally died -- lens fell out and won't stay in.

Been using some glasses off AliExpress which are pretty good but I'm not sure they block UV as well... Should test them, I do have a UV flashlight.

I keep being surprised how many riders don’t wear glasses, unless very cloudy I can’t ride without.

I also have bean wearing Lip typhoon and strongly recommend them even if very xpensive. With the neck ‘gasket’ essentially imposible to loose them.

I understand they will be coming out with a phtochromic ( changes darkness with amount of light) version soon. That to me is the best as you can use them in all light conditions. Have photochromic glasses for skiing and mountain biking and swear by them.

Huge majority of riders in their 20's 30's 40's have very high tolerance to glare and brightness.

Once you get in your 50's 60's 70's etc the eyes become less and less happy with the sun.

All those years spent with sunlight and water reflected UV which is cumulative has taken a toll on the eyes crystalline lenses.

Similar to car's plastic polycarbonate headlights that become less clear with time dispersing the light now from the bulbs.

Same with the older eyes the light from sun disperses on the way to retina.

Dispersing is what makes the glare so incomfortable to the older individual.

Polarisation is a must for driving but not the best necessarily if waveriding to read the wave sets for either carving on them or jumping off.

Photosensitive lenses would work better in wave situations reducing the light intensity but a lot less disabling glare will get knocked out.

Other option is fixed tint sunlenses.

Always make sure they are made of polycarbonate or other material like NXT (trivex) that provides the assurance of harmful UV blockage and high impact resistance.

When you buy sunglasses look for features that are important.

Hydrophobic finish on both sides.
Back of the lenses with anti-reflective treatment.

Licensed optician here 35 years in the business.
Shaped with high tech edgers several hundred pairs of sun lenses into regular or wraparound frames without and with prescriptions from doctors.

#1 priority was giving the best safest lens and vision to the patient in the best fitting durable frame.

Sold a lot of safety rated sunwear.

Fashion was never the main objective.

i have got jobe sunglasses and they never fell off. They are really well wrapped around your head.

honestly its not a big expense. Even if i lose them, i would just buy another pair.... that is something you cant do with your eyes...

My eyes used to get super red after being in the water for more than an hour. A lot redder than my freinds'. It probably means I'm more susceptible to pterygium or some eye issue. So I started wearing these $30 decathlon glasses and no more red eyes.

But even with their neck gasket, I ended up losing one pair of glasses when I crashed in a small wave. The problem was their flimsy hook on the band that connects the glasses to the neck gasket. I used a piece of dental floss to tie it hard and zero problems since then. Pretty much impossible to lose them now.

Got some photochromIic lenses from AliExpress that I have to get around to testing too. Got some aviator-style for driving too but they need UV light to darken and of course, the car windows are UV-cut so that was silly of me

I'm always worried the exposed edges at the bottom would get all slice and dice in a good faceplant...
