Hi everyone.
I'm new to kiting (just finished lessons before we went into lockdown) and have just bought my first kite (brand new). Some of the glue on the seams seem to not be stuck down properly. The shop tells me that is quite normal as the glue is only there to hold it together while they stitch it and it is the stitching that holds the kite together.
I've attached some photo's, can anyone tell me is this normal on a new kite? or is this a potentially weak point that may break quite soon?
Thanks

Hi

Are you EU, USA,or somewhere else? As far as I'm aware, in the EU, the shop is responsible for that. So the are more likely to tell you, "Na, it'll be fine".
In the US, the manufacture is the one expected to fix it, and the shop is pretty much free and clear of fixing something the manufacturer would refuse to.

I had some stitching fail on a 2019 Moto after 2 uses. Its not unique to Cabrinha, all brands factories make mistakes. Cabrinha kites in general are overbuilt and tough. If thats the leading edge it looks like they changed the way its stitched compared to 2019.
I just hand stitched my kite rather than send it out. Were two small areas about and inch where it failed. Hope i don't regret doing it myself.

It’s called seam tape, it is used when we assemble the kite or sail. It holds the pieces together until a stitch is put over it. It was no strength properties and if there was a way of holding panels together without it prior to stitching it wouldn’t be used as it’s an extra cost serving no benefit once the kite/sail is assembled.
There is a reinforced type that does have some structural benefits but adds weight so only used where it is needed.

Looks like I had better learn to sew!

You guys are talking about two different things.
Daverj kite has actually lost some stitches, those need to be replaced, I've done it several times.
Hanginon's kite is not obvious that it has lost stitches because the photos do not show the stitches.
