New GoPro "The Remote" is not waterproof

Postby gmb13 » Fri Feb 12, 2021 2:45 pm

If you are considering buying the new Remote for the Go Pro 9 have a look at this. One session (1hr) no deep submersion.

30 minutes after I got home the Port is totally corroded. According to support the port should not get wet. But the Flap "protecting" the port is super flimsy and does not keep water off the port. Go Pro support told me that I should not rinse it after a session either as they say the port is not water proof. But then again, they initially did not even know what the "the remote" was.

I didn’t even know they had released the remote. Well that really sucks. Do you think it would survive on your wrist on a kite board?

I was winging with it, so pretty much the same use case. I went out again today and rinsed it out with fresh water. It still works. Time will tell if this will keep working. Or maybe GoPro will answer my question on their community forum if the port really is not made to be rinsed out with fresh water.

So it was NO deep immersion. You wrote DO

Had me confused I should have guessed what you meant.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for spotting the spelling mistake. Corrected now to avoid confusion.

I had this issue with the last remote, the smart remote. The contacts for the charger would corrode and I had to scrub and scrape it every so often to get it to charge correctly. It was annoying, but it kept functioning. Hoping this one does better
