Size Recommendation for Core Fusion

Postby 1234567Simon » Thu Feb 25, 2021 9:58 pm

Size Recommendation for Core Fusion;

Dear All;

Background:
I am starting to upgrade my first Set of Kite equipment I bought, 18 month ago.

I got very good advice from you for new kites for starting to boost bigger (and to handle in strong winds); I got very good recomendations from you for a very specific typ of kitesurfboard.

Now it´s time to think about my twintip.

Question:
I am only 70kg (small feet) and I could get a good deal on a Core Fusion, BUT it would be the smallest size: 133 x 39.

is it too small??

it will be my only twintip (Car is pretty full alread). I will use it for the typical stuff like trying to boost high in winds from 14-30knots on the ocean (never on a small lake)

right now I have a SU2 138 x 41, and mainly I feel it is plenty of big for me, but I could never try anything such small. (Main Problem form me: it is super super soft, and I always feel it flexing)

I often see strong 85kg guys with boards 135 x 41 so I figured, the small one might be ok.

Core themself advised me to go for one size bigger (but one size bigger would cost 300 euro more :( )

the deal I could get, is good, but not sooo good to not care if I don´t like it.

Thanks a lot for any thoughts.

Best regards
Simon

Please do not understand me wrong: I do not need any other board-recommendations, or board ideas.

The 133 is going to be for groms and light women. I would put you on the 139 in moderate winds. If you're riding completely lit all the time you can downsize, but 133 is too small for your weight IMHO.

This calculator tends to be fairly accurate. You may want to subtract 5KG or so. Much more accurate than each manufacturer's website recommendations:

Gotta disagree sorry - I used the calculator and it says in ideal winds of 25mph I should have a 12m and a 168cm board

My main ride is a Crazy Fly Raptor Neon 140 x 42 so a LOT less than Mr. Science predicts...

Take the DEAL - deals are great - those boards are sweet - and remember Lou rode a board way smaller than anything you are asking about.

Hard to see how you could go wrong taking advice from somebody twice your size...

What is your weight?

You're probably not using it correctly. There are (4) different board sizes to look at in the calculator - Beginner, Light Wind, Normal Wind, and High Wind. Check out the Normal Wind and High Wind board sizes, and like I said above knock off 5kg from your actual weight.

Check my math - I'm 127-130kg in winter ran calculator at 120kg assuming lots of healthy choices by spring... still NO WAY I'm rocking the Imperator on small kites that board is just for light winds on my 14.5m.

Just another example of well intentioned tech that doesn't quite hit the mark.

Finding the positive the KITE size range is right on my quiver runs 7m - 14.5m and fairly closely aligns with the wind speeds indicated...+/- about 7 or 8 mph on both the HIGH and LOW ends.

The kite sizes are OK but the board sizes are complete nonsense. My main board is a Lieuwe Shotgun 136 x 40.5 with rocker and channels.

No way would I use a 145 x 42.8 board with a 9m kite, it's much to long and wide.

No, it is not too small. But you might want to think about picking up a larger light wind board for winds in the lower end of your range (14-15 knots).

I am 80 kgs and rode a Core Fusion 135 for a season. It's one of my all time favorite boards. I now ride a 132 x 41 (different brand). The Fusion 135 was great, but I could have easily used the 133. If one of your goals is boosting big, then a smaller board with a larger kite is the way to go. At your weight, you'd be fine with the 133 Fusion in moderate winds and higher.

It would have been cool if someone blind tested boardsizes and documented it. To me too much is made out of those CMs, but I don't know. Not saying it doesn't matter, but I'm not sure if many would actually notice incremental changes here.

That said one would obviously try to find the perfect size if one could. But I would not be surprised if two riders with the same weight, level etc. could easily prefer a board quite a few CM different from the other - assuming they would actually notice the difference.

Logically speaking the 133 should be too small for you - as it is the smallest board they got - and I am assuming they are designing boards for riders smaller than 70kg. And I personally much prefer a slightly too big board than a slightly too small one. Do I believe it will be a complete disaster with 133? No. Do I believe you will find the "perfect" answer here without some serious demoing? No. Might it be worth getting the 133 just to see how it feels? Even if you in the end after some months figure out it is too small? I would probably say yes. The experience you gain could only help you picking out future boards in my opinion. And it is more than possible that you will love the 133.

Thanks a lot!!!
Perfect for me to work with....

Now just discovered that Core uses 16,5cm insert distance and my pads / straps are something like 15,3 😡. Different story...

Thanks a lot to all for the support

I think I will go for it!!!
