I saw a bar...

Postby gator1 » Wed Mar 03, 2021 2:51 am

Saw a bar on youtube and it looked like lines were covered plastic from the bar high up to where the lines twist from kiteloops. Looked like a factory set up. Pretty good idea as this is where my lines wear.

What about heat shrink? I was looking at a parts shop the other day, and they suggested putting that on if you REALLY didn't want raw dyneema as your depower lines...

I am guessing you are talking about a bar that has rear line trim so the depower system doesn't get in the way.
Big brand examples are the stick shift from Ocean Rodeo or the clickbar from Duotone.

Do note that the safety line still needs to run through those plastics freely and wear can happen within the plastic and the line when e.g. sands gets in there.
So you still need to check lines for wear regularly and they might not even last longer.

Since I've experienced a premature wear of the lower sections of my lines (quite a lot of rolls per session) I've come up with the idea of protecting them with a cover. I am using a Liros PC-300 (https://www.liros.com/catalog/en/pc-300 ... ariant=188), not too complicated to cover it although neither super easy. Probably the easiest is to use heat shrinkable sleeves.

I thought about heat shrink, not wanting to put a soldering iron or heat gun near my lines, plus heat shrink would get shredded. I'm thinking more pvc irrigation tube.

This guy, leader lines went all the way up. Also looks like a covering as it is colored. My lines get furry at this area.

It'll shrink with a hair dryer.
