Any reviews available about the Sonar Carbon 85 with 2200R wing?
Where are the North members!? :cool2:
Here :)

What would you like to know about it?

Gunnar have you tested those Reflex wings? How's the 1500R for kiting how does it compare to a 633 those wings are supposed to feel smaller than they are and have great speed for their size?

Hi Gunnar,
I need comparisons between:
- Levitaz Shaka L
- Moses W1100
- North Sonar 2200R
- Gong Full Carbon Curve XLT
Which Foil will be flying first at low speed?
Is it possible to get it flying on a flat lake only with a long paddle and pumping?
What about agility? (I know all of them are big)
Ok.

I am not allowed to talk about the Gong online (neither good or bad) at the risk of being sued by them.

So. Sonar 2200R vs W1100 vs Shaka L

They all have pretty similar stall speeds. I would give the 2200R the edge here. This really also depends on which Fuselage you use. With the C600 or A600 a skilled rider can pump it onto the Foil easier in light winds. With the long A700 or C700 Fuselage it does the same as the others. Paddling up any of the 3 is really hard to do unless you are an exceptionally skilled Stand Up Paddler. The 2200R is not the greatest pumper of the 3 choices here. It is a very low AR wing and does not glide as far per pump. For Pumping the 1450 HS is something you should look at from North.

On agility the Sonar with the C600 or A600 Fuselage is the clear winner. It turns really tight and fast compared to the other two. For me it is a really fun foil just for that reason.

The 1500R is ok for kiting. A bit big for my taste. It compares more to the W790. Thanks to the short fuselage (C600 or A600) it turns faster and makes it a more fun wave and freeride wing. It is one of my favorite Wing Wave riding Wings.

"This" North guy hasn't ridden any of the new North foils with the exception of the new carbon fuselage which is an absolute masterpiece and has an incredible impact on overall foil weight. Gunnar has a lot of experience on the new foils.

Maybe I’m naive here, but how could Gong sue you for just expressing your opinion here, on a forum?

Gunnar does work for Gong's competitor so it's not as simple as just his personal opinion.

I don´t work for Gongs Competitors. I am self employed. I run a Surfshop and my Youtube Channel and do freelance Board design.

The 2020 Reach launched March 2020

The new 2021 Reach went live on the North site March 3rd 2021. USA shipments started this week. I don't know anyone in the USA that has ridden a 2021 Reach yet, however I'd think you'll start to see some first reflections next week. I think European shipments might be slightly ahead of USA so maybe some earlier reviews could be coming.

For changes on the new Reach there are some minor reductions in weight through some material changes and the use of the new bridles that were released with the second generation Orbit and Carve. Admittedly I've drank all the North Koolaid, so having said that I'll say on a personal level is the best all-around high performance kite I've ever ridden and I'm excited to hear this kite hasn't had too much done to it. It's epic for surf, foil and TT riding. I'll add some reviews here as I find them.
