Death Loop - Risk Highly Reduced W/ New Bar Designs

I'd like to say that death loops primarily occur at the kite end with the bridles wrapped around wing tips or one broken line. As edit says. Punch to safety. Since i use a slider rope and low friction ring I test the safety every session.

Yeah if you have a slider or equivalent you don't need to do qr exercises since it's built it that you use it every session.

I do see the benefit of a rope harness. But when jumping 10+ meters I prefer to have metal supporting my weight than a rope. Ropes have a high strength when pulled axially, but less strength when pulled perpendicular.

Dyneema ropes are way over strength when used for sliders. Typically they are 5mm dyneema which can hold two and a half tons so it's plenty strong. I never use a rope slider because I unhook too much but if the only reason is worries about strength give them another try. They are plenty strong. It's not like spreader hooks don't snap. I've snapped 3 or 4 of them so far. They wear out and get metal fatigue eventually.

If I were doing that dangerous gliding they do out west in the mountains I would rather be on a slider than a spreader.

I am not sure the hooks are much better then a rope.
Hooks seem like they have plenty problems.
We had the ION recall recently and I just got a picture from a stealth bar where the hook broke on one side at the base of the hook.

No rope necessary but all the same benefits, you have to check your qr at least twice a session, builds muscle memory, almost no chance of inadvertently unhooking, less chicken loop wear as the curve is larger, hook can’t break, toeside is easier and much more comfortable and boosting is easy as.
As long as you are not unhooking it works really well. If I am going to do an unhooked session, when I come in to change the kite and bar it adds 30 seconds to switch the harness bars out as well.

This thread is just another example of why I love this site!!
I do a bunch of DIY stuff, but EDT & longwhitecloud - I had never thought through the dangers of using flimsy leader lines and tiny floats. So now I'll use my bare bones bar for hydrofoiling in very light winds, but will be looking for a fairly recent bar with big floats and stiff leaders to replace it.
My other DIY bar is based on a slingshot and has big floats and stiff leaders and since I ride without a hook I think its about as bullet proof as I can get.

I have the stealth with surf spreader is it possible to buy the 'steel closed halo loop' to replace the small dyneema loop ?
